Schefter: Bill Belichick & Patriots to Part Ways

53 players on a roster and a playbook with thousands of plays to figure out what to emphasize each week. You're a fool.
You're no day at the beach.

Did they though? I saw improvement to the offensive line towards the end of the season, when they put a sub par Qb in there they hung with the Chiefs and Bills. Of course they are going to be even better next year whether BB was here or not, they have Judon and Gonzales coming back. They have the 3rd pick in the draft and a early pick in each of the other rounds which is pretty much gold. The next coach is basically set up for success. BB would of been just fine.

You think Bill set the next coach up for success because he lost 13 out of 17 games and handed him a top draft pick?

Man, I can’t wait for our new young coach to go for it on 4th and 7 on our own 45 or go for 2 after a 5-yard penalty while we are only down 1! It may be idiotic, but at least it’s going to be fUn!

Also, can’t wait for us to burn high first round picks on wide receivers when we don’t have a QB to throw them ball. Maybe we can be like the Falcons and only draft skill position players in the 1st round! We may suck, but at least we are going to have WeApOnZ!
I'm looking forward to watching the HC pressers again. It's been well over a decade since I stopped watching Bill's.

It was definitely time for bill to go. I’m eternally grateful for everything he did here. The nfl is a what have you done for me now and not a what have you done for me in the past league. We haven’t been winning for a while. Plus a lot of the assistant coaches when we were winning like mcdaniels, Dante scarnecchia, Ivan fears left. And also Ernie Adams was gone. I hope Kraft makes a splash hire otherwise we’re going to be losing for a long time

Kraft has done a he'll of a lot for this team when other owners were happy to just use their team as a money making machine. As for Kraft personally, he is a horrible public speaker and right or wrong made choices on what the football expert he hired told him except for 1 time mas far as I know/believe. Many owners make the mistake of trying to do football things. Kraft generally didn't do that. If he did make a mistake it was not having a deck and balance to Bill's influence. He probably should have as I believe Bill at times made choices that were best for him/his ego and not the team. As just about any perspn would do to some degree. As for who runs the team now. Its mostly his son as we know with Kraft being more of a figure head and in the room to confirm big decisions.

Nothing you do is wrong, nothing you say is incorrect, it's all about some numbers here and there, public perception to be molded.

Respect your decision Bob, but if you are trying to defend guy whose biggest pro was a "hire and move out", and then his biggest con (AFAIK for the team) was to literally turn your back to everybody who made you who you are, and side with a egomaniac who wanted to throw dirt on your QB and coach for literally made up air problems

You do you. I don't think I'll ever agree with this line of thinking, and maybe Kraft should be doing more Thai massages too, maybe he'll do another optimal move and let Johnatan take over with a head clear of booze and other drugs.

Whoa, do you know something you'd like to share?

From reading your post it really seems like you contradict yourself.

First, everything is about what have you done for me lately. It's been 2 losing years. For a guy that has a long record of winning. If that's all it takes for the ownership to give him the heave ho, imagine the decision making for the next coach who only has 2 years to turn things around.

As you wrote, unless Kraft hits on the coaching hire, we'll be losing for a long time.

But the losing starts from the top. As coaches understand that even Belichick was out after 2 losing years, they'll do everything they can to win immediately. We'll be making a lot of short term decisions. Just like every other team in the NFL. This is a shortsighted approach, not an approach that constructs a team with a long term foundation.

Let's say Belichick was fired after last year for some reason.

So the new GM approaches the draft and he sees that the team is lacking a LT. He fills a need by taking Broderick Jones instead of Gonzalez or Cody Mauch instead of Keion White. These are the types of decisions that may haunt a franchise if Gonzalez and Keion White turn into All-Pros (both showed that this is certainly possible for them in the future). Meanwhile Jones and Mauch become merely serviceable tackles that fill a need.

Ummm... no one said he never made a mistake or that he is this amazing person without faults. He has plenty. As for the whole deflate gate thing, what did you expect him to do? Go scorched earth? It wouldn't have changed a thing. As ******** as it was.

Yeah, having a top 3 pick in each round and a 100 million in cap space, a solid defense with Judon and Gonzales returning is leaving the next guy in good situation. It’s not really rocket science. It’s a lot better than what BB had when he got here

You wildly overrate who Mac was and is.

Zappe should have shown us that by now.

Mac is a huge problem, they need to get rid of him ASAP.

No saving him.
I don’t believe either Jones or Zappe should be starting after watching them perform this year. I’m just stating that BB played a large role in ruining Mac Jones with his decisions. Patricia/Judge as OC/QB coach is indefensible. The report that BB wanted to give Patricia another year at the position is an even worse joke.

Patricia was better than O'Brien, but that's neither here nor there.

Mac going back to his rookie year already showed the same tendencies. Cowering under pressure, lollipop throws, crucial interceptions.

The reason he had so much success his first year is that coaches hadn;t schemed him yet; did not know all his weaknesses. We see this with players all the time.

This idea of being permanently ruined is a sketchy one, especially when you see Zappe performing better in the same offense.

Dude is 72. He’s coaching to beat the record and retiring. And not going to a rebuilding team. It will be a team that wants to win right away.

Think chargers, or if Atlanta goes out and signs a QB

He wasn’t beating the record here at our pace. Unless he stays another 4-5 years.
I expect whoever signs BB as their HC, will get docked a 1st round pick,

Just as a warning shot from Goodell.
