Schefter: Bill Belichick & Patriots to Part Ways

I know Bill was a hateable guy but what I respected most about him was he never changed. His performance may have but his coaching always showed his knack for defensive greatness.

Looking forward to moving on with someone that can fix this broken offense and philosophy and get a team that we can as fans buy in on. It’s gonna be a process but I believe it was he right decision to make now.

Wish you the best Bill and look forward to seeing you in canton in the near future. You’ll always be my coach!!!

The Krafts don’t know what they’re doing. It’s a decision they’ll come to regret.

I also think back in the history of the team. They’ve had 3 owners. Each owner made one and only one good coaching hiring decision. In all 3 cases (Fairbanks, Parcells, Belichick) it ended badly. This is a bad separation with the coach.

The Krafts have done many good things. The Sullivans also did many good things. Kiam didn’t do anything good. But at the end of the day, I think of the Sullivans as not being up to the task of running an NFL franchise (ie they didn’t know what they were doing). In 5 years I have every confidence that this is how I’m also going to think of the Krafts

I am surprised. I thought Kraft would chicken out. Happy to be wrong about this.

That's it then.

Sad to see it happen but — as someone who only recently came around on this — it's time. And of course Belichick knows how it works as well as anyone; there's a reason his nickname with the Giants was "Doom."

My only hope is they assemble a great team quickly that can take advantage of this golden draft and cash opportunity they have right now.

I am not sure but I think there is going to be a media announcement at 12.00hrs local time on Pats.com....trying to confirm this

He's the GOAT coach. It was just time. The situation became too much and the team deserved a fresh direction and someone who could commit to that and Bill deserved a chance somewhere else to pursue getting the record without having to be bogged down by a rebuild that he would likely never see through.

Confirmed by another poster , announcement at Noon today

Brilliant defensive mind. One of the greatest coaches of all time.

Yip...sad for the team and for BB , but as they say "time waits for no man". What a career and life in football. What will happen to him next.

I am glad they are having a joint press conference. It should help make this “feel” better, but it’s still rough. I think it was the right move, but hard not to feel uneasy about it regardless.

The crosshairs are now squarely on the Krafts. If Bill goes to Atlanta and wins a bunch of games and the Patriots are still bad, they’ll be crucified by the media. I don’t think Kraft will love being the target instead of letting Bill take all the hits.

So, basically, he is getting canned. Oh well, time to move on I guess.

What’s to be nervous about? That they won’t be able to put together another 4 win team?

That they won’t be able to draft special team specialists in the third round?
The Pats were a clown show pre BB.

Every single time they got good something bad happened. Tuna improved conditions in NE, but like always he brought his drama and BS. BB was spot on when he stated "Parcells put himself ahead of the team during the 1996 Super Bowl" What should have been a joyous time was a nightmare mired in controversy. Parcells calling his next employer in NY from the Patriots hotel in New Orleans.

It was not all Brady that got the Pats to the top of the mountain right beside the Steelers. Bill Belichick deserves just as much if not more credit.
