SC WR Alshon Jeffery rumor

He's Aaron Hernandez....and we already have the original. The Pats WR corp needs ONE starter with speed

I'm afraid I am all too inclined to agree with Brother Wilfork, Brother Snake.

Hopefully, he gets double teamed into the DIRT all year ~ without sustaining injury or wear, of course!! ~ doesn't get a single Sack, and drops to the 3rd or 4th!!

I actually thought he'd be a late round/undrafted pick, I kept on looking at 2012 mocks asking myself where he was:bricks:

I think a guy like this has Julius peppers potential, I'd LOVE for him to fall to the 3rd but I'd even be willing to trade up from #32 (knock on wood). We just need to move Mallett for a 1st to afford all the players I want.

Everybody needs to remember that the Spurrier passing game is the exact opposite of the Patriots.

In the Spurrier passing game, the QB throws to a spot and it is the WR's job to be there. The WR has no other option, all he can do is run to that spot.

No reading or thinking involved.

Exactly.

To assume that a Split End that's been "schooled" ~ to be kind ~ in The Steve Spurrier Academy of Flankers would be able to master the automatic...systematic...and HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYdromatic Patriots Offense would be...shall we say...???

Spurious.

So much for the overweight talk. Alshon Jeffrey apparently 6'3 and 213 lbs. Good weight for him.

I heard 216 but either way, anything sub 220 is great for him.

Now his speed will be a crucial factor. Run anything under 4.5 he's a top 10 lock...anything too far above and you have to have some concerns. My biggest concern is his route running ability which I don't rate a great deal. He ran in a very simplistic offense at USC and if you watch tape, there were times when he really struggled to separate from defenders and his height and vertical ability really made it hard for defenders to stop him even when they had him covered.

In the NFL, if he struggles to get separation, it's going to be tough to just expect him to be able to go up there and get it again. I think he struggles with speed out of his breaks......going to be watching his drills extremely closely.

The kid must be starving. Probably just left the jockey hot box. No way this slim Alshon lasts. I've seen photos of him with a belly, highlights where he ass is a wide as a lineman. They should place a box of cupcakes at the 40 finish line and watch this guy go. I hope he flies.

Tastycakes makes these little pumpkin pies. They only make em in October and November because their trucks aren't refrigerated. If you put a box of them at the end of the line, I'm sure I could break 6.0

It's funny to me how people still doubt this kid. He is going to be a beast in the NFL and a lot of people are going to regret not taking him. This is the problem with the draft process, all you need to do is actually watch the tape and you can see this kid is special. Instead people look at the stats and make up false rumors like he is fat and lazy and people believe it.

But wilfork... why would i look at footbally tape of a prospect? Thats no way to see if they are good football players.

This guy definately isn't because i saw a photo once where it looked like he had a belly... also there was this one photo where he looked like a lineman... thats all i need to evaluate a prospect.

What? he weighed in 213-216? doesn't matter about your stats i like to use my gut instincts to judge a prospects physique.

The concerns aren't really so much the rumours surrounding his weight. Do some proper scouting on this guy and watch the tape...he rarely ever gets great separation even int he NCAA...his height and radius are just second to none.

He has no 2nd gear, often slows down instead of speeding up out of hi breaks, rounds off some cuts (especially double moves) and if he does this at an NFL level, then I would argue the corners at pro level will have him relatively in check. He also isn't the best at getting off of press...when his numbers say he should be.

I'm concerned about last season's drop off too. When his starting QB went down people used it as an excuse...but he looked disinterested at times when a player like him should be elevating his game and helpiung out his team.

We went to a QB who hadn't started a pro game or even a college game when Brady went down...did Moss fail to get double digit TDs? No. Did Moss fail to muster 1, 000 yards? No.

On top of that, he plays in an offense which is in no way the kind of offense you want a top prospect to be coming out of. It's as simple as it gets. The interviews are going to be massive for this guy...if he shows poor route running on the most basic routes and doesn't show good speed in the 40 yard dash, then teams are going to be worried about his ability to run more complex NFL routes.

On top of all this, he may not even run the 40 this weekend.,..which is a shambles. He wants to give himself more time and run on a faster athletics track at his pro day. I'd be advising him he seriously needs to run this weekend..there's absolutely nothing wrong with him!

He won't help his cause if he doesn't run it. Saying that, I think he'll be a player...I'm just not sold on just how good yet. I've watched the tape, and whilst his highlight reel is impressive, there are some concerns for the trained eye when watching his tape...and they don't just watch highlight reels on youtube put together by his biggest fans.

I thought I read somewhere that Jeffery will not be running the 40 at the combine.

All he said was he doesn't know if he's going to run.

I think it's in his best interest to run personally.

Wide receivers bust quite often. When you find a red flag on such a hit/miss position, it causes doubt. People would be foolish not to question a WR who can't keep his weight down.

And if that was what is happening it would be fine. If people came out and said he put on weight in the offseason and looked a little heavier through the season, so it is something that needs to be looked at and monitored, that's fine because it's true. What I don't like is people making BS arguments with absolutely no evidence to support it. He's fat, he's slow, he's lazy and a diva. It's all garbage. A single report comes out that he's 250lbs, which was quickly proven to be false, yet people still believe it and use it against this kid. Does he have flaws? Absolutely. Is he a fat, lazy diva that some people make him out to be? Absolutely not.

But it's not a single report, because there's also the picture of him sporting too much 'contented muscle' for a wideout, and there's his own talk about his weight. The '250' number hasn't been verified, but the 230s have, by the player himself.

Here's a little something on the subject:

Jeffery says he weighed 230 last season at USC. Knew he had to be lighter for NFL. Down to 216.

He also conceded that 216 pounds is the lightest he’s been since high school.

There's also tape on the guy struggling to get separation at the college level, which is usually because of a combination of factors, and one of those factors is often a lack of early speed. He's going to have to run a fast 40 time to get people behind him as a high pick.

How do you know?

How do you know?

I have yet to see a single credible source ever question his character or work ethic, and believe me I've looked. When everyone started criticizing him, I looked to see where it was coming from and I couldn't find a single thing, apart from that infamous photo taken well before the season started. I would like to think of myself as quite an objective person, and I don't blindly love the guys I like, so trust me I understand Alshons flaws. But I'm also not a sheep and I don't just follow what others say about a player. I like to watch them and form my own opinions, and if I feel a player is unjustly criticized, I will justify my position. I've watched well over a dozen South Carolina games over the last 2 years, and i feel i have a pretty good read on the guy, so when people say things that have no factual basis whatsoever (like he is a diva), then I feel I have to say something. But like I said, if anyone can actually show me some evidence of these things, I'll happily listen.

No dog in the fight for me. I just call em like I see em. I love watching those SEC games. 99.9PCT of the board has loved that Alabama defense the last 4-5 years. Jeffries was flat out the best player on the field that day. Dominated the Tide and led South Carolina upset over then top-ranked team on a long winning streak. Don't need youtube to remember what I saw.
