There is something about QBs and the draft. Did anyone think that SIX would be gone in what, the first 12 picks. But after the big 3 left the board, the Michigan kid, Nix, and Pennix went shortly thereafter. They never seem to go down in the draft, actually. I agree that Ward is even rawer and in need of more work than Maye did coming out, and Sanders looks more like an overacheiver than top 5 pick (or even top 10).
The thing about QB's is that everyone is always looking for one and they are the most difficult position to predict. Top 5 picks bust ALL the time, and Brady and Purdy come from nowhere and become stars. It's even more difficult now than ever. QB's are required to process more and more pre-snap stuff as well as the post-snap stuff. The have to turn out to be gifted leaders and that's no always easy. And THEN they have to have all the physical gifts of speed, athleticism, accuracy and evasiveness. Then after all that being able to bear up to the wear and tear of an NFL year, even with the ****y rules that are now in effect.
No question. it is the most difficult individual position in team sports. And all that being said. unless you have 52 OTHER quality players around him, he can look like Patrick Mahomes on a February Sunday.
