Say what? (Silly Mock drafts)

Evan Lazar has a 4 round mock out. It's not the most exciting but it''s good enough

I think Jihaad Cambell is getting plenty of first round love right now so as a replacement, I would look at one of Jack Sawyer (the perfect pick to kickstart Vrabel's career in NE), TJ Sanders or trading down for Darius Alexander (and with the additional pick taking Clemson LB Barrett Carter).

That's a horrific draft, by Evan.

Why?

The best OL, a dynamic starting linebacker, one of the best pure pass rushers in the draft, a sub 4.4 WR with excellent YAC ability and run stuffing DT. Exactly how is that horrific?

Overdraft, Overdraft, Overdraft, Overdraft and Overdraft.

If you're making trade-downs and getting draft capital back for this and future seasons, fine. Taking Will Campbell at #4 is ridiculous. same with Campbell at 38, and Uche 2.0 at 69. That's just ignoring that there are better players at those positions.

Here is the first award for clown mock draft for the Pats. Where do they get these contributors that write this trash? Was it an 8th grade English paper assignment?

Probably some Chinese ai deepseek mock draft **** right there!!! actually it wasn’t an 8th grader, it was a 4th….

Mock drafts can be a fun exercise, but right now they are relatively useless.

Wait until after the first week of free agency.
Team's needs will alter dramatically based on what happens in FA.

A team that is currently assumed to be drafting a QB, for example, signs a veteran instead.
That completely upends the top of the draft, creating a domnio effect with mocks.
Similarly a team may unexpectedly lose a valuable free agent, creating a new need.

Let's see what teams rosters look like four or five weeks from now before looking at mock drafts.

There are scenarios where Hunter drops to 4. Its really going to come down to combine and pro days. If Carter shows up big and the qb’s ball out, there you have it. As for the rest of the picks, definitely not sexy. I hope we shore up our OL in FA so we can spend most of our premium picks on a deep, talented defensive class.

There is something about QBs and the draft. Did anyone think that SIX would be gone in what, the first 12 picks. But after the big 3 left the board, the Michigan kid, Nix, and Pennix went shortly thereafter. They never seem to go down in the draft, actually. I agree that Ward is even rawer and in need of more work than Maye did coming out, and Sanders looks more like an overacheiver than top 5 pick (or even top 10).

The thing about QB's is that everyone is always looking for one and they are the most difficult position to predict. Top 5 picks bust ALL the time, and Brady and Purdy come from nowhere and become stars. It's even more difficult now than ever. QB's are required to process more and more pre-snap stuff as well as the post-snap stuff. The have to turn out to be gifted leaders and that's no always easy. And THEN they have to have all the physical gifts of speed, athleticism, accuracy and evasiveness. Then after all that being able to bear up to the wear and tear of an NFL year, even with the ****y rules that are now in effect.

No question. it is the most difficult individual position in team sports. And all that being said. unless you have 52 OTHER quality players around him, he can look like Patrick Mahomes on a February Sunday.

And all of them played well and JJ McCarthy got injured. I think this year Q Ewers - J Dart - Riley Leonard and Kyle McCord could all surprise.

I saw a video recently (dont remember who it was) saying that Dart is no different than Sanders but might actually be more physically gifted and to not be surprised if he shoots up boards. I’m not going to pretend to know anything about Dart, but we are officially in silly season folks. Buckle in, its a fun ride.

I think S Sanders is going to be a very good passer: on Cam Ward a team can only hope he turns into a poor man's Lamar Jackson he can run. Same goes for Jalen Milroe he has wheels very raw passer though.

Jackson Dart's tape gives me goosebumps I don't know how he's not Touted as a First Rounder. Well Brady and Brees weren't First Rounder's either.

Cam Ward is by far the best passer you mentioned in that sentence. His problem is he needs a QB coach, to keep his release consistent, but he's got an accurate, effortless arm. He also needs to be coached that it's ok to run, because he hates doing it, stands in the pocket until the last second.

Sanders has an arm just above noodle-level, but he's a much better runner than Ward. Not faster, probably (he might be), but smarter at it.

Milroe's a running back.

This has been discussed for awhile, but there's no OL in the draft that is anywhere close to the best player we could get at 4.

You don't get a worse prospect with a higher pick based off need. That's how you blow picks and chances. And frankly, the Pats have so many holes, that there's very few BPA scenarios based on how the top 3 fall where we wouldn't get a massive upgrade at 4 as long as we don't reach.

Campbell isn't going to become Alt or Latham just because drafted him high. There's actually talent in the draft on defense. When you lock yourself in on a need and say "that's the priority" that's how you make bad decisions and screw yourself over.

I agree he's not the best prospect at 4 but he is still the consensus no1 OL and top 10 prospect in this draft and the other picks are all quality prospects so in no possible way could this be called a "horrific mock".

If the Patriots use their first 3 picks on Matt Light, Ronnie Perkins and Josh Uche, yes, that's pretty horrific. (4, 36 and 69, no trade capital coming back.)

If you trade DOWN and get CAPITAL for those picks, then yes, that's acceptable.

If I remember, Matt Light was a 3x SB winning LT and to compare Perkins to Campbell is laughable. Who would you pick instead of Stewart at 69?

And a good draft to not need a QB in.

I do mock drafts a lot for fun, but its all meaningless until free agency sets up. The goal will be to have every position filled prior to the draft. If we sign Smith, Stanley, Robinson, or Jackson, we won't draft an LT in round 1. If we sign or trade for Higgins, WR is off the board. I don't see us taking a RB in round 2, but I would love Restrepo in the 3rd. I have no issues taking Hunter if he is there at 4.

There are few things in existence more worthless than mock drafts.
Particularly those that take place prior to free agency and the combine.. too many unknown variables.

That's one I just did that's pretty much 'stand pat', although I did manage to get some steals in the 5th round. The difference between Will Campbell and Conerly isn't very much, and you don't have to worry about Conerly's arm length. Also at LB, I'd rather have Carter than Campbell straight-up, regardless of draft position. That's 3 day-one starters, and maybe 4 if Castro's as good as I think he is.
