been liking hunter more and more the past couple of weeks if we dont take him at 28 or 33 i dont think he makes it back to us
Williams is 2 years younger with about half the tread wear of Hunter. If Williams checks out physically (was never the same after a nasty hamstring injury this year), he has everything you want in a feature back. Hopefully his slow 40 time at the combine causes him to drop into the Pats 2nd round range. He is plenty fast enough and has the decisive running style this board always looked for in Maroney.
The only thing working against Hunter is his size. He has the physical skills and production. I just get a little worried about skill players that put up big numbers in the Big 12. It is an offensive conference so a skeptical eye is warranted...as long as you don't miss out on the next Barry Sanders.
I would tend to favor Williams based on having BJGE and Woodhead already on the roster. I can see Williams carrying the load when needed. I'm less convinced of that for Hunter. Hunter looks like a nice COP back but I like Woodhead in that role.
I've read a couple times recently that Williams has had significant ball security issues. If true, I'd be less than enthused about taking him in the 2nd.
No disrespect, but this is the first time I've heard anyone suggest that Hunter could go any higher than about the mid-3rd round. Are you hearing that he's moved that far ahead in the rankings? Or are you suggesting that there is likely to be a run on RBs (no pun intended) much earlier than most have predicted?

NFL scouts have told me they have been turned off by Kansas State RB Daniel Thomas and his inability to show up to meetings, as he consistently reschedules. Questionable accountability is the phrase that keeps popping up.
Vereen also can return kicks and has played out of the slot before and is a good receiver. He's my No 3 RB in the draft and gets compared to Ray Rice a lot. He also has never fumbled.
I like Vereen a lot too, but that's simply not true. I know for sure that he fumbled against Oregon last season because I was rewatching the game the other night. And if you do a little google seach, you will find out that he also fumbled against Nevada. I don't think ball security is a big issue with Vereen, but he has fumbled before.
I'd take Roy Helu later.....good hands....good blocker....the kind of guy that blows up blitzing LB's.....fits the blocking scheme and would complement woodhead and BJGE
Most Teams have a second round grade on Hunter now.
I would've an interest in Mikel Leshoure in the second round. Ryan Williams is a possibility too.
I was intrigued about Daniel Thomas but this bit of news is discouraging. No way Belichick would've an interest in him if this is true. This kind of behavior lands you in a head coach's doghouse or likely gets yourself released.
