Who do you take in round two if the Patriots want a back? Ryan Williams probably has more upside but Hunter is the safer pick.

Neither. Id rather have DeMarco Murray or Daniel Thomas late in round 2 or round 3

been liking hunter more and more the past couple of weeks if we dont take him at 28 or 33 i dont think he makes it back to us

Kendall Hunter gets my vote.

I read some where during the combine that Ryan Williams did not appear to be interested in blocking during the passing downs. To me that's a red flag.

Williams is 2 years younger with about half the tread wear of Hunter. If Williams checks out physically (was never the same after a nasty hamstring injury this year), he has everything you want in a feature back. Hopefully his slow 40 time at the combine causes him to drop into the Pats 2nd round range. He is plenty fast enough and has the decisive running style this board always looked for in Maroney.

The only thing working against Hunter is his size. He has the physical skills and production. I just get a little worried about skill players that put up big numbers in the Big 12. It is an offensive conference so a skeptical eye is warranted...as long as you don't miss out on the next Barry Sanders.

I would tend to favor Williams based on having BJGE and Woodhead already on the roster. I can see Williams carrying the load when needed. I'm less convinced of that for Hunter. Hunter looks like a nice COP back but I like Woodhead in that role.

No disrespect, but this is the first time I've heard anyone suggest that Hunter could go any higher than about the mid-3rd round. Are you hearing that he's moved that far ahead in the rankings? Or are you suggesting that there is likely to be a run on RBs (no pun intended) much earlier than most have predicted?

I've read a couple times recently that Williams has had significant ball security issues. If true, I'd be less than enthused about taking him in the 2nd.

Todd McShay actually published those stats yesterday. Williams fumbled once this year and 5 times in his career. Percentage-wise, he's about average @ 1.17%.

Daniel Thomas is a fumbling machine at almost 2% for his career, and 2.15% last year. So he's probably not even on the Pats' board.

The best - Mikel Leshoure has 0 fumbles in 461 touches. Ingram has 3 in 632 touches. And Jacquizz Rogers has 1 fumble in over 900 career touches - which is truly amazing for a guy his size.

Most Teams have a second round grade on Hunter now.

I don't recall him being particularly fumble-prone. He did fumble late in a national TV game in 2009 that probably cost them a chance at a BCS bowl game. I'm inclined to cut him some slack since he was a RS freshman.

You do bring up a good point in that he does seem to get spun around a lot on tackles. That can be a recipe for fumbles. Looks correctable to me but I can see why Belichick might see that as problematic.

I would've an interest in Mikel Leshoure in the second round. Ryan Williams is a possibility too.

I was intrigued about Daniel Thomas but this bit of news is discouraging. No way Belichick would've an interest in him if this is true. This kind of behavior lands you in a head coach's doghouse or likely gets yourself released.

NFL scouts have told me they have been turned off by Kansas State RB Daniel Thomas and his inability to show up to meetings, as he consistently reschedules. Questionable accountability is the phrase that keeps popping up.

I like Shane Vereen better than either Williams or Hunter.

Hunter has pass protection issues. Williams Injury concerns.

Vereen also can return kicks and has played out of the slot before and is a good receiver. He's my No 3 RB in the draft and gets compared to Ray Rice a lot. He also has never fumbled.

I'll take Shane Vereen in Rd 3 as well. Quicks, receiving ability, and threat to score on any touch. ST returner as well I believe. And with a 5'10 210 lbs frame he won't break down as easily. I think we've got a good change of pace candidate for BJGE. In round 2 I'm looking OL, OLB, and WR.

I like Vereen a lot too, but that's simply not true. I know for sure that he fumbled against Oregon last season because I was rewatching the game the other night. And if you do a little google seach, you will find out that he also fumbled against Nevada. I don't think ball security is a big issue with Vereen, but he has fumbled before.

Vereen actually had a bad year fumble-wise: 4 fumbles in 253 touches. That's not good.
For his career, he's a bit better: 7 in 630. Which comes out very close to Williams - about average.

Here's the info. It's insider content:

2011 NFL draft: Ball security is paramount for running back prospects - ESPN

I vote for NEITHER! especially in the second round, History has shown that you can get a qualiity RB anywhere in the draft, both Dion Lewis and Delone Carter as just as good, if not better, and both can be had in rounds 4-6.

Save the 1st and 2nd rounds for lineman and an OLB that can actually rush the passer!!!!

BJGE ran for 1,000 yards last year, RB is really noth that big of a "Need". and none of the RB available in the draft as Adrian Peterson.

I'd take Roy Helu later.....good hands....good blocker....the kind of guy that blows up blitzing LB's.....fits the blocking scheme and would complement woodhead and BJGE

Helu sucks, I've watched this guy and he does nothing special besides having good character and I'm not taking him over hunter, williams, leshoure, todman or vereen just because of good character.

Yeah, I'd say IF we're going to be drafting an RB as early as the 2nd, I'd much rather have Leshoure than Hunter or Williams.
