Running Behind Onwenu and Moses

Says the guy who NUMEROUS people have taken to task for stupid and moronic statements. Which is why so many have you blocked.

You should have kept your mouth closed since you have nothing relevant to offer.
Taken to task eh? It’s a FAN forum. “You should have kept your mouth closed since you have nothing relevant to offer”. Internet tough guy saying internet tough guy things again, at almost midnight no less. No idea who hurt you, but bless your heart little guy.

I thought this too, but Onwenu’s PFF grade is pretty good. He’s 8th out of 78 Gs overall (5th in pass blocking and 12th in run blocking). Doesn’t quite match my view of his performance and yes, it’s PFF, but still better than I would expect.
Onwenu's PFF grade is always pretty good.

At this point, this should tell you much more about PFF grades than Onwenu's actual on-field performance.
They cannot run screens to the right side, because of Mike Onwenu.

His PFF grade is substantially higher this year than last year.

You’re right. Onwenu lacks ideal mobility for getting out in front on screens. But they can run screens to the right if they scheme it correctly.

Do you have any idea what he’s referring to? I’ve never seen a post of yours that warrants what he’s babbling about.

I don’t, but he’s the same person as he was 15 plus years ago when I joined the board. To spare the others, I’m not going to continue to respond to him. He can DM me if he’s got something to get off his chest.

Just for giggles, which current players to you want to see on the team for 2026?

Campbell, at LG or LT... Wilson at Center... Bradbury, if he's willing to be a backup... Moses, if he wants it badly enough... VD Low, Big $ Brown & Jellybean can compete for backup spots, though VD's a UFA at season's end... Onemenu & Wallace I want OUT of the building completely; as well as the two useless stiffs on the PS and Yessir Durant, obviously.

OK, I don't think that we are far apart at all, except for tone, nicknames and histrionics.
===================
1) LG is our highest or #2 priority
2) RG should be our #3 priority since we should make the position a major veteran (Vrabel might prefer an Onwenu extension and a draftee)
============
UNTIL BETTER ARE FOUND (9)
STARTERS: Campbell, Brown, Wilson, Onwenu, Moses
BACKUP: Bradbury
PRATCTICE SQUAD LEVEL- Bryant, Wallace, Jaimes (I expect replacements for all by the cut, but they will be in camp)

EVALUATE THESE AND PERHAPS EXTEND IF WE CAN
Lowe
Munford

RG should be the cheapest position along the OL, not the most expensive. If Onemenu doesn't accept a Major pay reduction, then cut his fat, lazy ass and find somebody else to replace his production there. Shouldn't be that hard.

James has yet to re-sign with the PS... Wallace sucks; I want him Gone... And I don't know what the heck's happening with Jellybean...

VD might've priced himself out of our range with his recent starts at LT... Munford's just a practice-squad-level JAG... Pats might need two brand new backup OTs plus a developmental one for the PS, depending on how Bryant takes to his prescribed off-season workout program...

Ty. For a second I forgot what the thread was about
Thank you for restoring this thread to its intended puepose - a football discussion. Let's keep the bickering to Myface.

I was shocked to see how highly rated Onwenu is on PFF, he certainly has been underwhelming under the eyeball test. He has played better than in 2024, but he counts $25 million against the cap next year with a dead cap number of $7.5 million. It seems a much better player can be had for the money, even if the cap space remains stuck in the IOL.

Since around midseason after Drake Maye learned that throwing the ball away was an option, his sack average per game has almost halved. They’ve also started running the ball pretty well.

4 new starters on the line including two rookie needed time to gel, much like the entire team did. Drake needed to improve and stop taking unnecessary sacks and throwing the ball away instead of running out of bounds for a loss.

Hidden in all this ^ nuance is the fact that the Patriots currently have the third most passing yards in the NFL. They rank #1 in yards per pass attempt by three yards per… they’re the best deep ball passing team in the NFL. The rushing attack has steadily improved to a healthy 4.2 yards per rush and they are tied for the 8th most rushing TD’s in the NFL.

The NFL is a team sport, this is one of the youngest teams in the NFL with brand new coaches and schemes… they’re still learning and improving execution. It’s not as simple as throwing a bunch of talent together and that’s it. This offensive line is growing into one of the better units in the league. You don’t wind up with a top five offense in points scored with a bad or even “mediocre” line. That’s silly…

Next year they should look to find the old guy’s replacements, bolster the overall depth on the line and increase the level of competition in camp. If they want to be an annual contender, they should look to add to both lines every offseason.

That being said the notion this O Line is bad or average is discounting “execution” and the ability to improve with an almost entirely new group of players who were strangers before this season and including two rookies. Also the much needed improvement by Drake to realize he doesn’t need to win an entire game on one play and to take what the defense is giving him on checkdowns.

Some fans need to check their entitlement and learn to be patient. Every dynasty championship team had rough patches along the way, it was far from perfect every time.

And they are Ahead of Schedule.

This is far from a finished roster, always has been.

Henderson, Williams and all the rookies have barely scratched the surface. Even the vets can improve communication and overall execution.

Stay healthy, play your best in the playoffs… what happened before that won’t matter.

K Williams has barely scratched the surface at all.

M Williams has answered the preseason questions about whether his contract was a stretch, and the suggestions that his Super Bowl credentials with the Eagles were over valued and he was one dimensi9nal not a well rounded DL star.

1) Yes, we need a top veteran free agent LG.

2) Onwenu is not taking a major pay reduction. And no, it is NOT easy to find a replacement. I would be 100% fine signing a veteran RG for $10M AAV if he is as good as Onwenu. All agree that we will not be paying Onwenu's cap hit.

3) I agree that we don't have a 3rd backup IOL (after Bradbury and Brown).

4) Yes, we need 2 additional backup OT's, in addition to Bryant, who is good enough to be the PS #5 or perhaps better. Of course, Lowe would be an ideal choice if we can re-sign him. Munford may be an OK #4 or #5, or not. I suspect that he will be re-signed for cheap and compete in camp with Bryant, Wallace and a draftee.

5) We have improved greatly and now have 3 starters and 2 backups that we can count one. That is a good start. I would add that a 6th is easily within any budget at RG. At very worst, we will have an extended Onwenu. More likely is a replacement with some cap improvement. That's SIX needing a LG and a couple of backup OT's.

UPDATE: James has been re-signed to the PS. Next step for him would be an offer of a Futures contract when the season ends in a couple of weeks.

Yup.

Almost all the Practice Squad players not poached in the next few weeks will be offered a future contract with little guaranteed money.

The mobility issue does not only effect getting out on a screen. It effects climbing to the 2nd level and blocking LBs as well. What is Onwenu's PFF grade for run blocking when he has to move to the 2nd level and block LBs?
