Roster upgrade is vital!

I'm not against all that but it would seem like overkill. After lasts years free agent class a little overkill might be a good thing. But we also have other positions of need too. We have plenty of money to overkill at WR and still address OL and front 7.

The answer this off-season should be yes.
I'd rather do overkill than underwhelming in the draft/off season.. getting as much talent in the building is vital for Drake and his year 2. Yes improving the tackle spots are also going to be huge drafting and FA is where we go there. Remember in 06 getting moss and welker both by trades? We did it that way then and we could do some similar. People will be surprised of what a top tier WR can be had for. On defense adding at leat 2 pass rushers and an interior DL would do wonders. With Bentley and peppers coming back and a healthy Dugger. Marte appears as if he will be the 3rd safety so Hawkins can stay on STs where he belongs. I like dial to carve out a role at CB.

Overkill works for me just don't want to get singularly focused on WR. We have an OL to fix and a defense that needs a lot too.

In 07 we traded for Moss & Welker but we didn't also draft a WR top 5 that's all I was pointing out. I guess we did also sign Stallworth. I'm all in on overkill now didn't take much convincing lol. Just be sure to also address OL and Defense too.

Personally, Im just here for the collective meltdown to when this offseason goes to **** somehow

Im all in for signing Safeties, center, old linemen and cornerbacks!

What I want to happen:
The Krafts hire a consultant, or small committee with the sole intention of hiring a president of football operations. That person can then determine who he wants to hire for his front office as well as his football staff.

A quality upgrade of the roster is not going to occur until or unless that happens.

What I fear/expect will happen:
Most everyone in the front office as well as the coaching staff will retain their jobs, with an exception of a token lower level firing to appease the masses. Jonathan will become more involved in football-related decisions, rather than just sticking to the business side of operations. Everyone gets another chance, we'll hear 'we knew this was a going to be a multi-year rebuild', etc.

Then in 2025 when the team wins four or five games, we will hear about 'how things have turned around' and 'the team is heading in the right direction'. There will be an upgrade here or there, but overall the team will still have too many holes on the roster, thanks in part to some whiffs in free agency and the draft.

I’m going to zag here and say I actually love the roster
Trey Jacobs says he’s got the best seat in the house—and he gets paid!

At the very minimum you upgrade the ot, wr, edge positions. Its very possible through fa/draft.

My wish list:
-Tee Higgins, would settle for dk/cooper/godwin
-Alaric jackson or stanley, would settle for cam Robinson as a short term solution
-Draft hunter with the first pick, edge rusher pick 2
-Hassan reddick, down year with the jets. Normally a very productive rusher. Lets you move keion inside with the drafting of another edge. Prefer josh sweat but dunno if he’ll hit fa.
-rt, if they feel good about caedan ok but i wouldn’t hesitate to swing a trade for jack conklin as another stopgap by the deadline.

Thats the BARE minimum along with depth signing at dt and cb. Also would like to Take a fs mid rounds, and make a run at dre greenlaw. But first things first give drake help at wr and strengthen the trenches. A strong pass rush hides many weaknesses
I like your suggestions , but doubt Alaric or Stanley would be available. We might need to overpay for cam Robinson.

Similarly Higgins might be staying back with Bengals. There will be some underhand dealing via endorsements to bump his salary. I don't think we will be able to pry free agents that easily going forward.

1. Sign Godwin on prove it deal
2. Overpay cam robinson
3. Hasson Reddick prove it deal with slight overpay based on performance metrics
4. Trade down and get an additional 2nd rounder and 2026 1st and Maxx Crosby from raiders.we can probably send back a 2026 3rd or 4th to sweeten deal.
5. Get BPA in draft from position 6 or 8 in draft. I am okay with us not drafting either McMillan or Hunter . I feel round 1 draft pick this year might be on defense. Will Johnson might be a great fit and with crossby , Riddick, white pass rush should be insane along with two lockdown corners in will Johnson and gonzo.
6. Overpay Javon Holland and cut /restructure dugger in 2026.
7. With his defense we should be chasing scores less than 25 and Maye can probably elevate our wide receivers and tight ends to keep it close.

I feel with this team we might be better off with Flores or Vrabel. Just need to get a young and upcoming play caller on offensive side .

A list of free agents that interest me at a quick glance of lists of guys available as of now:

QB: n/a
RB: Aaron Jones (MIN), Najee Harris (PIT)
WR: Tee Higgins (CIN), Darius Slayton (NYG)
TE: Juwan Johnson (NO)
IOL: Drew Dalman (ATL), James Daniels (PIT)
OT: Alaric Jackson (LAR), Dan Moore (PIT)
DL: n/a
EDGE: Josh Sweat (PHI), Malcolm Koonce (LV), Baron Browning (ARI), Dayo Odeyingbo (IND), Chase Young (NO)
LB: Dre Greenlaw (SF)
CB Charvarius Ward (SF), Rasual Douglas (BUF), Carlton Davis (DET)
FS: Jevon Holland (MIA), Camryn Bynum (MIN)

I think there's a real opportunity to rebuild the defense through free agency. The drop off has been pretty heavy this year and I know many want to attribute it to poor coaching. I think talent is a huge factor too though. Even the harshest BB critics I think would acknowledge that he's arguably THE best defensive strategist in the history of the sport. I don't think his acumen and impact on that end has ever been in question. So I'm sure that's played in to some degree, but I also think that even though the personnel can be viewed as similar in a lot of ways, there's been some notable drop offs outside of coaching:

1) Bentley is out and while he's not a great player, he was their best LB and, most importantly, he was good enough to keep Tavai in a reduced role that he was an asset in. Now, with Bentley out, they have Tavai filling in terribly in the bigger LB role and also lose Tavai's positive contributions in his specialized role.

2) Peppers has been out for most of the year which forced Dugger to play mostly FS, which he's significantly worse at. Dugger also looks visibly limited by his ankle injury which means even though he's out there in name, he's not the same guy.

3) Jonathan Jones is another year older and reportedly playing hurt.

4) Barmore had blood clots and obviously wasn't the same guy in his limited time back.

They'll never get a defensive coach as good as BB but I still think they have guys with solid resumes on that end. Covington has long been viewed as a strong assistant. Mayo got head coaching and DC looks elsewhere. Pelligrino has always done a solid job with CBs. Not saying there's no possible concerns with coaching, but first and foremost I think they need a talent infusion on that end.

On the offensive end, its not that guys like Chris Godwin, Trey Smith, Ronnie Staley, Cam Robinson, and more don't interest me at all, I just prefer to go for some of the younger options.

True. The SOS won't be as low as it was this year.

Yes 07 correct it was the 07 off -season I remember brady mentioned how it was a difficult year with the WR group. But he made it work. Lol.. yes we went overkill in 07, and remember jabar gaffney who was at best a 4th WR was able to flourish in his role as he made big plays that season especially in the playoffs. Now on the OL sure up the tackles and add some depth... defense I know I mentioned a player or 2 to add but the defensive line may just need an overhaul at DT, DE especially. Chase young would help big time!

You might be onto something:

If we're going to spend to the cap we might need to find some players on other teams that they can't afford to keep. Make a trade and then sign long-term deals.

I want to engage in speculation of who can replace Eliot Wolf as GM, which may be an outcome of this disastrous season.

This guy.

Or, my choice, that guy.

Yes, if i were a betting man I'd say only Cam Robinson is there at LT for us. Still a solid upgrade, at least with pass blocking.

I'd be okay with a trade down to the 6-8 range provided we are getting a true impact player with it. My hope is Hunter but if someone is willing to let us bend them over I'm ok missing out. Assuming 3 qbs are taken top 8 and obviously Hunter will be gone we will end up with any of Will Johnson, Tet McMillan, Abdul Carter, Mason Graham. Those are all great values at 8. Not too sure about those OT’s but will know more come draft day.

Love it!!! Higgins knows we will be in on him.. seems like Cincy is going to prioritize chase rightfully so.. I'm sure we may have to over pay for Higgins so be it! Go for it.. Josh sweat and or chase young I'll glady take.. if Rex gets the Jets job I see Reddick staying put. As mentioned to signbabybrady.. we may need to revamp the D line.. the DE and DT spots.. Godchaux should be at his age a rotation player like wise next season. Draft some studs DE&DT.. to allow white to play more natural.. who's out there in FA at OL ??

Godwin for the 2nd season in a row had a catastrophic ankle Injury at 29 he may not be the same player..

Does the current FO have the imagination for this?

That was a sign I was speaking more to the suggestion of trading for Crosby. We can afford to overpay for him.

Yes, the domino effect of 2 good wr’s and 2 edge rushers would be tremendous. Kayshon boutte imo would shine as a #3 and bourne as a 4 is really good.

2 edge rushers pushes white inside hopefully with barmore and keeps godchaux as space eater. I even wouldn’t hate ekuale if hes down to 25% of snsps and not asked to play so much like this year but he can maybe be upgraded too.

Other than cam r theres unlikely to be much worth it at ot. Theres a couple guards and centers but i think you roll with layden/strange/andrews/andrews/sow to hope some combination works out at lg and c for this year before you spend there. For now just focus on ot’s.
