Pep Hamilton and Byron Leftwich BOTH interviewed today, in-person, because neither is currently still coaching a team so they are free to do it. These two guys immediately fulfill the Rooney Rule, meaning they could hire Vrabel as soon as they interview him if they wanted to.

FWIW Hamilton was Colts OC when Andrew Luck had arguably his best season in 2014...with an OL that sucked.

Is Hamilton looking for a QB coach job, because we need one?

My guess is that they are going to interview Vrabel in-person this week and Ben Johnson virtually end of the week (since he can only be interviewed virtually).

If they aren't blown away by Johnson and he doesn't convince them that he is worth waiting a few weeks for, then they will hire Vrabel right away which will give them a huge jump on hiring the rest of their staff.

Hamilton is an interesting one, maybe a potential Pats staff candidate whether that is OC, QB Coach, "pass game coordinator" or whatever. They need smart offensive minds wherever they can get them.

I'd like to welcome the new HC of the New England Patriots. Please welcome Bryon Letwich.

I think some of these interviews is to just get them in the door and perhaps offer the OC position instead.

If we interview only two serious candidates that is barely better than the whole Mayo process.
The NFL circles suggest the candidate pool is very weak behind Johnson and Vrabel.
Drake Maye vs Jayden Daniels do you also look at Spencer Rattler? No.

I'd rather just talk to the qualified guys and there really is only 3 fits here. Johnson, Vrabel and Flores. Nobody else is even sniffing the possibility of this job even if they bring a masseuse to the meeting but Flores and the whole lawsuit thing might be an issue and if it is you are left with 2.

S Tier: Mike Vrabel, Ben Johnson
A Tier:
B Tier: Aaron Glenn, Kliff Kingsbury, Brian Flores
C Tier: Joe Brady, Liam Coen, Kellen Moore
D Tier: Vance Joseph, Jesse Minter, Wes Phillips

Big gap between the top 2 and the rest. They probably don't want to go for another defensive guy besides Vrabel, and I don't think Kingsbury is really their type. So then they're looking at guys who are really inexperienced or retreads without a lot of success.

Interesting. An offense guy.

Yeah, agree with the list
If they go defensive minded its Vrabel, Offensive minded it is Johnson.
If there was a candidate with an offensive background with head coach experience, like McVay, then they would be in but there isn't.

It would have been interesting if the Rams did miss the playoffs as most of us thought would be the case mid-season and McVay was a trade candidate as was widely rumored.

I still wonder a little about Kyle Shanahan's status.

I do agree that the candidate pool seems more thin than ever. I am happy we are getting going quickly since there are currently 5 openings and seemingly 2 solid candidates.

Patriots interviewed pep hamilton today. rooney rule complied with. ben johnson interview thursday? vrabel hiring announcement friday?

do we know the Johnson interview is Thursday? I know he was given a Thur-Sat window for virtual interviews........with Leftwitch & Hamilton already complete....Vraebel will be in "this week"

That's all we know so far? The timeline wouldn't surprise me........we might have an announcement before the playoffs start

Imo, there are no S tier coaches available as of right now. ymmv on that one. To me a Superior coach would have been getting Sean Payton or Andy Reid (after he left the iggles).

I'd put Vrabel and BJ in the A class. But otherwise, good list. But Just No on Vance Joseph.

I just want a coach that will clean up all of those holding/false start penalties AND bench anyone who has a turnover.

Speaking of which, what is BenJarvus Green-Ellis up to these days? He would make a great RB coach for Rham!
