Ron Brace at DE?

It seems to me that ole BB simply picked up Brace because he's always wanted better depth at DT. Ole slick Billy also has stockpiled his picks for next year. This matters why? Boys, don't worry if Wilfork leaves. BB will simply draft this feller;

Personally, i think now that Saban has had a couple years there, Bill is gonna start drafting from there, and Cody is first on the list.

OchmedJones, who has seen a lot more of Cody than I have, says he'd be an instant upgrade over Wilfork, and that's saying a lot. But I doubt we can get him - unless we want to trade up. So, me, I'd just stick with Wilfork.

The reality is that I think we can keep both next season, so maybe the argument is a little unnecessary anyway.

I don't want to lose either, I leave it to the F O. Wilfork plays the more valuable position, Seymour is more versatile nad tops at his position.

I don't get this two down stuff, though. If Wilfork keeps teams stuck at third and long by stuffing or collapsing the middle, we win games.

That's all that counts, winning games.

I agree - but the point I'm making is that I think Seymour is better against the run than Wilfork is, in addition to being a better all around defender.

Instant upgrade??? Instant?? I really doubt that...sorry...to say ANY player in college is an "instant upgrade" over an NFL player who has been in the league a few years, is just silly. MAYBE in a few years that might be the case, but on a BS meter that ranks high.

If Ochmed Jones really said that, he needs to be drug tested. While we're waiting for the results, he can tell us all the college players who've become All Pro level NTs in their rookie years over the past 2 decades.

Hell, we can make it easier and not just use NTs. Make it any defensive tackles.

I don't think its an outrageous statement by Ochmed. Again, I believe he - like some others - voiced some concern over Wilfork's play last season and a seeming decline in his ability to hold his ground (a seeming decline that is reinforced by metrics showing the Pats were middle of the pack when it comes to runs at Wilfork - I happen to chalk this up to injury). Cody is a blue-chip prospect who does fit the 3-4 NT ideal, but he will probably be well out of the Pats range in the draft, so its likely a moot point.

Don't shoot the messenger - I'm not saying I agree with Ochmed, I haven't seen enough to weigh in. But I don't see why it's inconceivable that a 380 LB NT, an elite prospect, couldn't be an upgrade over an NFL player.

After all, Vince Wilfork proved an upgrade over Keith Traylor in his rookie season.

Again, I'm not knocking Vince, he is one of my favorite players on this team. I just think Seymour is a better all around player, and that if the Pats FO sign Wilfork, it oughta be on their terms.

can we go over the bit about Wilfork's play last season and how it declined?
i noticed he was moved easier myself....but there were no discoled injuries....

are there any metrics where we can compare his play from last season to two seasons ago?

Again, name the last rookie NT to make the Pro Bowl and/or be an All Pro, because that's what it would take to be an upgrade over Wilfork. Ochmed may have been getting hyperbolic, in which case it's just a simple question of agreeing or disagreeing with his general opinion and realizing that he wasn't actually serious in the specifics. On the other hand, if he was serious, he needs to go back through the recent history at the position.

I think what you said was "INSTANT upgrade"...Those were not my words but how Cody was characterized. Upgrade?? MAYBE in time that could be...Wilfork started later in the year...and there was a lot of rotation there...clearly a big upgrade by the next year. Cody would have a very LARGE jump to have a similar upgrade as Wilfork did over Traylor, much less..."instant". ALSO, if he is THAT good..the Pats will not get near to him at the top of the draft. He may indeed be very good...but characterizing him as an "instant" upgrade is what is quite silly.
