Robert Kraft's Press Conference

BB comments today said "Robert, Jonathan, Robyn Glaser... who make the decisions"

That's horrifying that Robyn is part of the top 3 with the owners? WTH! She must have video of Bobby.
She should stick with the Kraft biz side, and get out of football decisions. Especially because she's the one that "got close to Mayo" last year that likely led to his unvetted hiring. Bad.

Jonathan
Highsmith, transitioning to New Head Coach and his guy
then
Highsmith
Wolf (if he stays), and Groh (who will likely stay)

RKK is a figurehead at this point.
So what is Highsmith’s role once this shakes out? Coordinating the new and old personnel sides?

There need to be checks and balances in my opinion. For instance, Wolf runs the draft and builds the "90 man roster" but the HC gets to trim it down to the "53 man roster" and have final say on managing that roster during the season, with help from the front office. In free agency, it is collaborative with Wolf driving but the HC can also independently identify and initiate a push to sign specific players he wants to acquire.
I seriously doubt a coach would have that much power with the Krafts.

Don't forget that Belichick couldn't get rid of Mac, and even in the 1990s, Kraft went to the media and highlighted that he was very upset that Parcells selected joe Burch in the 3rd round. There has always been a big level of upset when it comes to draft picks and players making the team.

I agree with @RobertWeathers, RKK is still the owner. Jonathan runs the business aspects.

I’m honestly shocked all this is going down. Was fully expecting the Krafts to lay down and take it. Like I said in another thread I’m glad the seasons over since this year put all the other bad years to shame. Mayo’s firing and watching this play out has been more entertaining than the games sadly.

I also think there is an understanding. Bob gets the spotlight....Jonathan plays backup.
Yeah definitely by design. Jonathan does not want to take the limelight off of his dad while his dad is still coherent enough to soak it in. Once Robert either passes or becomes too mentally incapable to really do it, Jonathan will step up.

Well Bob is at like 3% battery so he better get ready

I don't know how any of you can watch this interview and be convinced they will nail the next hiring, but whatever. This guys has been ****ing **** up for awhile now

Hey, but he said it's all his fault, guess there is that.

I wonder if he sees how paramount this next HC decision is, in many ways. He seemed distraught to lose a friend in the conference, gave absolutely no assurance or even energy about making a better hire in the future.

Let's see. This is going to be a very interesting offseason

Great question. Seems like we'll learn more in the coming days/weeks.

The interesting thing here is Wolf is the guy who brought him in.

A guy like Kraft is accustomed to choosing his words carefully. When asked about whether the new coach would have a say in others on staff, Kraft mentioned players and coaches. He explicitly left out the GM. Check it out.

Later in the press conference, he said that they were looking for a HC who could work with Wolf.

The stupidity goes on.

They need to hire a strong, experienced HC, give him a comprehensive say in who he will have to work with, and get the **** out of the way, dragging Wolfe by the ear all the way out to the parking lot.

He said he'd be helping with the search, said it would be Highsmith, along with Wolf and the rest of the staff.

He didn't say anything about Wolf staying long term.
Pretty sure they keep wolf till draft day then jettison. Makes most sense, then again wtfh knows.

Bob is very much a fanboy and probably tends to not be as cold as needs to be sometimes. I get the sense that Jonathan is not nearly as emotionally attached to the franchise as his dad is and will run it more like an actual business.

If he ends up staying on after the new coach comes in (and I'm guessing he will at this point), that will be part of his job, and at least for a while, he'll be very involved in the college scouting side of things. He had a hand in recruiting a lot of these kids coming out the next few years.

Is that good or bad

How would it work if/when it comes out in the interview that the coaching candidate wants to bring in his own personnel guy when the interviewers include the current personnel guy? Awkward at best.
They're (presumably) professionals and know the deal.

Interesting how he said his mind wasn't made up until after the game.
In playing to win, May showed he didn't have the long term interest of the team as a primary concern. Up to that point, it could have been argued his heart was in the right place, but with that selfish decision, his fate was sealed.

But once someone is hired, sometimes they move ahead of the guy who brought them. It’ll be interesting to see how that side of things shakes out.
