Ricky Williams Suspended for a Year

Nick Saban seems to be supporting Williams and believes that the test was a "false positive", according to Chris Mortensen in ESPN just now. I got nothing against Ricky, but this is bad for the Fish, which is good.

There seems to be something Tony Dungyesque in Saban. People keep comparing him to BB, but BB would never stand behind a serial moron like this.

Agreed, all this comparison to BB is a little premature. So looks like the RB position is all Brown's now. Lets see how he does without any help.

The bad news is now the fins will be looking to draft an RB too!

It is too bad what a waste of talent this guy has become. Ricky was one of my favorite players when he came out of the draft. Everything I heard about him then made him seem like a genuinely good person and it is unfortunate he has made this bad decisions. He could have been a special RB in the NFL, I considered him the best back for a season or 2. Now he will be lucky to play again.

I heard from somewhere that he has severe social anxiety, and wouldn't even take off his helmet during games for a while. I don't know if it is true, but it is clear the guy has off the field issues that don't put football too high on his list.

Yes, it is true, he wouldn't take his helmet off when he was on the Saints his rookie year.

he should be banned for life....what a moron.....what will saban do with him now....fish lose big on this one......

No he shouldn't. This suspension says more about the NFL than it does about Ricky Williams. The NFL is still trapped in a pre- 21st century mindset about marijuana and civil rights. What a NFL player decides to do off the field that doesn't interfere with his or any other player's performance isn't any of the league's damn business. Either they're misinformed about the consequences of marijuana use or else they just enjoy being health nazi's. Yes, I know his latest drug policy violation has nothing to do with marijuana, but Williams wouldn't be in the position he's in today if it weren't for his previous three failed piss tests.

As a private organization the NFL has the right to hold whatever expectations and rules they like, especially when it involves the punishment/banning of someone involved in illegal behavior. As an employee of that organization, Williams has the chose to either comply with the standards set forth...or get out.

You are correct, the NFL is a private organization, and has the right to make the rules and guidelines it wants. Unfortunately the government allows private entities to discriminate against its employees based on false pretenses perpetuated by politicians and tobacco executives of the 1930's. However, across the country these outdated laws are, slowly but surely, being thrown out in favour of more a modern approach to marijuana use. Yes, the NFL wins the argument in legal terms (they can drug test all they want for now), but logically what they are doing (kicking out talented players because of their marijuana use) is wrong.

Tough luck for fins...how sad

That's OK for the finski's..... Ronnie Brown can carry the load....:singing:

What is not clear to me is what is the salary cap impact, and has he paid back the 8.5 million he owes the Fins?? On the other hand, too bad as he played the game well, not sure if he can come back twice..maybe he can make some cash as a Lenny Kravitz roadie..

Lets not forget, we need to thank newspaper mogul (and wood-pulp paper manufacturer) William Randolf Hearst and Pete DuPont.

I doubt they do that with Ronnie Brown there (wasn't he a first rounder last year?) and the defense aging faster than a june bug...

You are an idiot. Seymour93's post was barely political. Do you understand that the NFL is the only league that tests for pot? I can tell by your name that you are a hoops fan. Do you know that Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish and Bill Walton would get stoned together nighlty after Celtics games? Does that make them evil? If the NBA were to test for pot there would be no league.

Do you think that it is OK that many NFL players take vicodin and percocet by the handful to manage the pain they are constantly in from playing football? Brett Favre was addicted to prescription drugs and he is a hero, but Ricky smokes pot so he is a villain? Also this latest test was for a substance other than pot. Do you understand how many over the counter medications contain substances that would show up on the banned list? GFY you dumb redneck.

I have been outwitted. I originally disagreed with you, but man those brokeback jokes just really made me see your point. I stand corrected. Pot is bad. Thank You Patriotic American for showing me the light.
