Rex Ryan on stopping Gronk and Bennett...

The only way they can be stopped is if they drop one..fumble ect..other then that...don't see it

If the Pats can get their act together in pass protection and put either a burner or someone that can hit the intermediate to deep routes at the X, there will be no stopping this offense (assuming, of course, we also draft a capable RB or re-sign Blount). I expect the first issue to get fixed. Time will tell on issues two and three.

just ment to start the same thread - HOW TO DEFEND NEW NE OFFENCE ?
of course in the light of yesterdays coaches statements
and presuming all the pieces will fit together (on and off the field)
which still remains to be seen ...

so - are there any DC's in our forum capable of a better answer
than Rex&co managed yesterday with I DONT KNOW ?

(kill brady is not an option)

One option is to manufacture yet another Patriots integrity of the game violation where Brady, Gronk or BB are sanctioned. It's worked before. That will have the enthusiastic support of the elite 31.
Sternly worded letter to follow.

Stopping this offense has always been about getting to Brady with the fewest required rushers. If the interior OL fails, and teams can get in Brady's face with three rushers, they can double team Gronk, Bennett, AND Edelman, which will work more often than not. The key is the o-line, not the weapons.

Now, IF the o-line solidifies, THEN having these two freaks of nature is going to make every team weep delicious tears of anguish that I'll use to spice my daily ambrosia.

I still don't think this passing attack is unstoppable, though. They still need, at the very least, a 2014 Lafell type that can hit the intermediate and deep routes. To date, they don't have that. This offense needs to force the opposing defense to account for as much field as possible or else opposing defenses will just play them as if they are in the red zone. Obviously, they will still have a ton of success but the better defenses in the postseason will be able to slow that down. Of course, it goes without saying they also need a competent rushing attack as well. But I was more or less just talking about the passing game.

I'm actually somewhat optimistic that Hogan can fill that LaFell role. But I agree, adding another option to hedge that bet would go a long way.

If Bennett works out the way he can here the the only answer Is get to Brady fast.

Gronk-Bennett-Edelman-Lewis are all very hard to cover 1v1. The extra body is probably better used to block to buy more time for the above players.

Not sure I've seen a terrible Dante Led offensive line. A few hiccups of games that won't be named but overall good luck getting to Brady quick this season.

Just the addition of a healthy Solder helps immensely. Add in Scars ability to motivate and get lines to perform and I think next season is going to be so much better up front. Wish I had a crystal ball to see how Jackson, Mason and Cooper are going to stack up.

Can't wait to see what he brings to the running game.
