Report: Welker “seriously considering” leaving Patriots

I've always hoped, but not expected, for Welker's return.

That said, this manufactured drama can end already.

Seriously, get his agent, get one of the Krafts, and lock them in a room until they reach a deal.

Can't blame Welker one bit, who wouldn't want to get away from the most ignorant fans in football.

We should be ignorant like you and ignore his drops and overpay him :rocker:
Fans are realizing he drops the big balls and can't do much beyond 10 yards.

I think he wants more money from the Pats but he doesn't want to leave them, which puts him in a tough bargaining position.

There's been no reports of him meeting with other teams, and there have been reports of him turning down offers to talk with certain teams -- so he seems to be limiting his options.

My guess is he'll eventually sign with the Pats, unless another sb contending team (GB, Den) come into the mix

No he's not.

He's a savvy businessman. it's called posturing. Teams do it all the time. The Patriots do it all the time.

Don't be a fool.

Yes he's the savviest of business men.

Signing that franchise tender and not holding out was a great business move.
Seriously threatening to leave multiple times in the last month and seemingly not doing it also is a great strategy. These are things that totally have Belichick scared and thinking Wes may actually leave and isn't bluffing!

You're the fool if you think this "posturing" is making Belichick even blink.

Its possible that like the Adam V situation no other team wants to be involved just as a player to help wes/pats make a deal and waste their time. Once they realize he is willing to sign immediately without getting back to the pats on renegotiating they may well make him offers

I'll be sad to see him leave but honestly he is the Manning of receivers. He cost the team in the SB and had several key drops in other play off games. I hope they still can work a deal out but if not I just hope he doesn't go to the Broncos. Great player but I remember saying him money isn't the issue and he made way more money as a football player than he imagined.

Hernandez, Branch and Brady also cost the team in the SB and in several other play-off games. Does that make them the Mannings of TEs, QBs and Receivers as well?

Seriously, do you stop to think about what you are saying?

Welker had a "drop" on what would have been a circus catch. It's amazing how people ignore the fact that both Hernandez and Branch had drops AFTER that on what should have been much easier catches. And let's not forget that Brady cost them 9 points, essentially, with his boneheaded play in the end zone by throwing the ball deep and getting flagged for intentional grounding.

Or how about is the AFCCG against the Ravens where more than a few of Brady's throws were off target and the receivers couldn't make the catch? I don't see you or others lambasting Brady for that?

Money or HOF credentials. Tough one. I'd go for the coin and visit the HOF for $15

Damn that Brady for not being perfectly accurate with a F'd up throwing shoulder!

If Brady has to be completely perfect before we can turn to blaming receivers we wouldn't need anyone besides UDFAs because we'd have the perfect QB just need a warm body to catch the ball right?

He made 11 million and was told he'd be getting a long term deal worked out. He wants to be a Patriot but is not going to let himself get boned out of his one big payday of his entire career. Don't be a fool. You're hating on him for wanting to secure his life.

The Patriots are currently going into the season with Lloyd (who the Patriots want to cut) and Slater as their top two wide outs. If you honestly don't think the Patriots are in serious WR trouble I don't know what to tell you. Even if we get Welker, we still need help and depth at WR.

You also missed the rest of my post which applies to you and many others.
EDIT:
Wow, reading the rest of these posts. I personally would be okay with him walking and saving money for defense. But wow you guys are freaking embarrassing. Welker deserves better. Why would he want to play for such a stupid unthankful spoiled fanbase.

Find me one quote directly from Welker threatening to leave. Just one.

This entire situation is manufactured. Agent's are giant douche bags but they're damned good at what they do. A side-effect is that they make their clients look like different people than they really are at times. The fact that you can't see this astounds me.

It's all speculation. The media WANTS a messy divorce in the event the Patriots' and Welker part way so they are laying the foundation for it right now. This will be their top story for the next week if it happens. And if Welker resigns it'll be news until the next contract rolls off of the leagues fax machine because the drama they wanted didn't happen.

New England is evil and it will play great in the news if we let Welker walk.

You know what I meant, leaking through the media that he's SERIOUSLY considering leaving and all this other nonsense.

Are you kidding me with that crap, stop grasping at technicalities its obvious this is coming from the Welker camp.

The point was up here.

Your head is about here.

Wes would be a fool and irresponsible had he not already given serious consideration to non-Patriot career opportunities. Unlike with you and I, this is most likely his LAST opportunity to make a job decision on his career.

That said, fans are being played by agent leaks and writers with agendas issuing statements based more on wish projections than on facts. We're impatient to see this resolved, one way or another, but this is just more frustration on our part. Serious negotiations often require time for all options to come to the fore and receive due consideration. Each new "look at me!" premature ejaculation by an attention seeking mediot gets everyone's juices flowing again. Take a Zen approach, it's ovah when it's ovah!

I don't care if he wants to be set for life, I'm saying this isn't helping his case because if he wants to be set for life he can go sign somewhere else if he finds an offer that suits him better. Simply threatening to do it when 99% of people are sure you won't isn't going to help him with Bill giving him some more money.

So how exactly is it foolish to think this is just BS from Welker?

Let him leave, he needs the Pats way more then they need him.

Nonsense!!!

I hate how some fans are already attempting to make Welker look like some bad guy/cry baby who is just a "system player"

Welker is arguably the greatest slot WR of all time...The fact of the matter is that Wes Welker catches 1/3 of all of Tom Brady's passes and unlike guys like Gronkowski, Hernandez and Edelman, Wes Welker stays on the field. The man is one of the toughest players in the NFL and WILL NOT BE EASY TO REPLACE.

I'm not saying give Welker an irresponsible deal similar to what Mike Wallace just signed with Miami, but what I am saying is that he deserves a fair deal after how productive he has been and continues to be for the Patriots.

If the Patriots are treating a guy who has given so much like Welker so poorly, why would any free agent ever want to play for the Patriots going forward?

Right. My point is posters defending Welker by deflecting blame to everyone else are out of their mind. Brady played his ass off in that Super Bowl with everyone around him dropping balls and we have a guy on here saying he deserves BLAME? What a joke.

I feel like I am in the movie Groundhog Day...

I don't understand how so much can be made of a meaningless tweet.

He's a good player I said multiple times 7 million a year is what they should pay him, but if he wants more its time to move on. No one thinks Wes sucks they just think he thrives because of the system and that this offense is not going to go to crap if he leaves. It seems like half the people here think Welker makes Brady as opposed to Brady making Welker. Tom Brady is the best quarterback, maybe of all time, and he'll find a way to score 400-500 points without Welker if that comes to be the case.
