I agree with all of this but to me it goes deeper. I've been saying since early '21 that Bill, at his age, just can't reach this new generation of players. The old autocratic style of management doesn't work with these younger players. We saw how OL and skill players tuned out Fatt Matt's old school methods. We saw how Tua reacted to being coached by Flores and his turnaround with McDaniel. Mayo has helped with this (he spoke about generational diversity last season) and probably why the D remains engaged. Obbie is another old school hard ass but at least he knows his **** and has recently dealt with college kids.
We've seen Bill try to keep it going by hanging on to old dynasty players, a year too late, to help with the translation of his ways to these kids. It hasn't worked. All of this at least partially explains the myriad of bone headed mistakes and penalties this team has committed these last few seasons that have cost them many games. They have not bought in like they did in the past. Some of it is lack of younger players stepping up to leadership roles.
It's really amazing how many posters still believe Bill is the same coach he was in his 50s and can perform . Maybe, but the players aren't the same and that disconnect matters as we've witnessed. It's only going to get worse. It's time for a reset or the option is the definition of insanity.
