Welker does not possess elite speed and neither does gronk, ahern, or lloyd. All fantastic pass catchers but would i want any of them if i am starting a track team? No.

There are other ways to score TDs on offense other than a red zone TD....

Boldin seems to have the ability to catch balls down field, which welker can't consistently do. Who cares what welker's stats say? Welker has been targeted way more than boldin has, so of course his stats are gong to be better.

What the Pats needed from him was a player close to the 2010 version of Lloyd who averaged nearly 19.0 yards per reception. Brandon Lloyd NFL Football Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com What the Pats got was another dink and dunk WR where they have no shortage.

Also, a 57% catch rate isnt going to cut it in NE for very long. FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | WIDE RECEIVERS 2012 It was better than Lloyds previous 3 seasons, but still a far cry from 66% or better. It seems insignificant, but its not. Brady is looking for a completeion % in the 66% range. Completing 2 out of every 3 passes.

Boldin's not close to Welker, and Cruz is such a game breaker that he, and a slew of other talented players, didn't even get the Giants into the playoffs. So, basically, you've got nothing.

You mean Torrey Smith who other than two TD passes against the Broncos was a non-factor in the playoffs. The same Torrey Smith who Dennard pretty much neutralized the entire game other than one or two passes? Smith is one of the most overrated WRs in the NFL. He is a stud one game and invisible the next two or three.

Or the Jacoby Jones who is good for one or two passes a game and is invisible. Forgetting what he brings on special teams, he is Donte Stallworth.

Without Boldin, the Ravens don't win a Super Bowl. Heck, they don't beat the Pats in the AFCCG. Boldin, not Jones and Smith, was the main weapon on the offense.

Seriously, comparing both teams at full strength, I would take the Pats' receiving corp over the Ravens in a second. Gronk is an elite TE that teams have yet to figure out how to defend when he is healthy. Welker is a better receiver than any the Ravens' receivers.

This is the craziness of the offseason. I would put Gronk and Welker with Taylor Price and Brandon Tate vs. the Ravens' receiving corp and choose the Pats' receiving corp 100 times in a row. The Ravens have a bunch of average receivers and no one special.

Gotcha. Figured I had simply misunderstood you. I would take a deep threat if the team felt they needed one, but ideally a receiver in the Cordarrelle Patterson/Justin Hunter mold is really what this team could use, regardless of whether or not they hand Lloyd his walking papers.

I disagree.

Welker is clearly the best WR of the bunch. Only Boldin had more yards than Lloyd and none of them had more catches. Again, I think Smith is one of the most overrated WRs in the NFL. He is soft and inconsistent. Put him up against a physical CB and he is usually neutralized. People talk about Llloyd not wanting to get hit.

Again, give me Gronk and Welker and the Pats' water boy, and a couple of cheerleaders and I will put them up against the Ravens' receiving corp.

It really is. They have several key holes to fill and a ton of money to do it, plus the draft. They could go after defense in free agency and then draft offense. They could fill offensive needs in free agency and draft defense. They could do a combination of both. Fortunately, they already have a great team, they have a lot of money, and there are a LOT of very, very good players that are going to be available in free agency and the draft, so there's plenty of different ways the Patriots could go about this.

I really hope we look back on this offseason as the launching point of another couple of Super Bowl victories before Brady retires. They are primed for that kind of scenario.

In Smith's defense, he blew past the Patriots secondary multiple times, but Flacco has no accuracy on his deep ball.

Much as they hate the idea of using their first rounder ona WR this may be the year they do it. I doubt Patterson is there and see him as a risk at that pick but I could see them using it on Austin or Allen. Austin would be like adding Percy Harvin and Allen would be an improvement over Lloyd, both are more explosive and would really help upgrade their WR corps.
