Reiss: Vrabel will not be present day 3 of draft

I feel deeply sorry for Vrabel, Russini, and both of their families. Nobody deserves to be disgraced on a national level for being human... certainly neither of their spouses or kids deserve the humiliation of everyone knowing their families worst secrets.

I think they'll probably both be ok in a couple of years, but her career is over and his struggle is most likely really just beginning.

From a fans perspective, it's a pretty bad sign for the Patriots that the "disease of more" started with the head coach in the offseason.
No. His struggle really began the moment he said “I do”.

Struggle got the better of him for a bit, now he has an uphill struggle in front of him.

I never said he should be fired. I said he probably should be fired if you're telling me he has a sex addiction that is getting in the way his his job.

You might be fine with the head coach skipping town during the draft but most of us understand that this is a problem affecting his ability to do his job now.

I pretty much ignore everything you say so please enlightened me where you stood 2 weeks ago on the matter. Was you on the side that there's nothing to see here/slash we don't know what's going on or were you on the correct side that he was running around on his wife and it was rather disturbing to see a old ass man parade around town with his side piece like he was a 22 year old frat boy?

I said from the start he shouldn't lose his job. That he crossed a moral line and probably a ethics line but didn't do anything illegal. Him missing work, and not just work but valuable work days that legit shape the foundation of the team while he runs off to some counseling rehab doesn't garner a ounce of sympathy for me. He's not missing work for a funeral, a unexpected death, the birth of a kid or grandkid or any of these other things one might expect but he's taking time off from work because he doesn't know make rational decisions.

Him going off to save his relationship at the expense of the Patriots is ridiculous. Especially since for years he didn't give a ****.

Color me a skeptic but it's PR move to rehab his image and soften the criticism from the media when they eventually get him in front of a mic.
But let's say it was a funeral he was missing day 3 for. Would you have zero confidence in the guys in our draft room to make good decisions?

If this becomes an ongoing thing and he misses OTAs and a week of training camp, then I'll change my tune on this. Until then, I'm not going to have a conniption fit over missing rounds 4-7 when he still has the same guys with him as he did in the room last season.

I feel like somebody back then saw them, was like, “Is that Vrabel?” And took the photos. Then they probably saw the other story recently, remembered they had them, and then realized the woman was Russini and that they had photos to sell. But I agree, the whole thing is nuts and there’s a lot that doesn’t add up.
I think it's pretty clear Amy Adams has had a pi on Vrabel for the better part of a decade.

Maybe I’m wrong but to me this just said you’re unmarried.

Think about it this way:

Your wife is pissed at you because you disrespected her.
She demands you spend time with her on Saturday to atone.
Your response is “Saturday is not good for me, how about some other day?”

Does your response improve things, or make them worse by repeating the offense?

I am married. I stand by my point. The date being a conflict with the draft is nothing but PR to show he is sacrificing his work for his personal life. One extra day does not change anything. Now, you would have a point if the underlying issue was work related.

I mean counselors work weekdays. So logistically, today would be even better.

Its not that I don't have the confidence in them, I do after last year. It's just that I find the coach reasoning for missing a very important day in your calendar for THIS excuse to be unfathomable.

If it were a death, I would say it sucked for him in his personal life and his work life but it's something we'd have to live with. It's one of those things.

His poor decisions shouldn't be something we have to live with. Just my thoughts.

I was loath to bring this up, but since this has become so public and the cat seems out of the bag, here’s what has to be said for nuance:

It is possible that Vrabel’s wife had shut down the ol’ lovin train.

It happens.

Women’s libido’s tail of much faster than Men’s do.

It absolutely creates tension and a tricky dynamic.

Not an excuse, as the proper thing in that case is divorce first (if sex is important to one partner and not the other) …but it happens and I’m not judging him for it.
Not necessarily divorce.

Two obvious alternatives. At least.

One is, if sex is unimportant to one partner why would they object if that need were satisfied elsewhere, without requiring divorce?

Another is, just because they might not need it as much doesn’t mean they dislike like or will refuse it.

Plus there are a bunch of factors that play into libido beyond physical factors, and some of those may be open for adjustment.

Celebrity marriage. She probably knew he was ****ing around to an extent. Turns a blind eye as long as it's not serious and doesn't embarrass her and the family. The Tony Soprano rule. Keep your **** away from the house.

Anyways, presumption of innocence is a court thing, not a public opinion thing. Vrabel isn't going to jail for this. It's easy to call a spade a spade.
Exactly.

The publication of those photos embarrassed her.

Now she gets her pound of flesh by forcing her husband to very publicly put her ahead of his job.

Scales balance. Case closed. Don’t do it again.

Understandable. He put himself in a bad spot. Now, what if we get confirmation that his wife told him she's willing to try and work things out but if he's not with his family on Saturday (for whatever it is they're doing) she'll be filing for divorce next week. Can you say he's making the wrong decision? Coach Vrabel going through a divorce isn't necessarily better for the team than the Coach Vrabel that misses part of one event, and leaves it in the hands of people who you yourself said you have faith in.

Vrabel has to do what's best for him. If his wife wants to work it out and he has to go to do that and that's what he wants to do then that's great. That's not our business.

If becomes our business when he wants to do it on our time. I guess what I'm saying is is that if his wife is saying he's going to do it this Saturday or that's it then I'm pretty much of the opinion of that marriage is already over.

If I'm Vrabes, I rip the bandaid off. Apologize to the wife and kids and let her have her way in the divorce settlement.

Get back to coaching, which is a horrendously hard profession to keep a stable marriage and play the field without any future commitments.
And then she says “nope, no divorce. I’m really going to make you pay!”

Where do you get the idea of sex addiction? That’s part of your hallucination.

I didn't get the idea. If you're following the thread that's the excuse others are making.

I don't care if he's treating sex addiction or going off to couples therapy. I don't care if it's a group setting or if it's the two of them. Wether there's a councilor there or not.

What I care about is he won't be at work during the draft. You should care about that too.

Yep, but so what. People miss work for all kinds of things, including couples consoling and even divorce proceedings.

If blowing off Day 3 takes some oxygen out of the kerfuffle, I'm all for it.

If he's going through a divorce, that will be on our time too. He won't be able to wait until off days to be distracted by it.

And as I pointed out very early in the thread, NFL families make a lot of sacrifices. These players and especially coaches miss a lot of events, a lot of moments. Yes, maybe their marriage is over already and trying to save it will prove futile. But making her a priority over football at least one time might be something she really needed.
