I hope they intend to play him, or if a trade, that he goes along with this.

If they don't trade him, he will play. Eight million for one year is still a 20 fold increase over what he has been paid up to this point. His agent even said they weren't considering a hold out (but yes, agents do lie).

good point, except i wouldve thought that the "biggest no brainer on earth" was franchising perhaps one of the greatest clutch kickers off all time, and the game winner in all 3 of our super bowls...

By franchise/trade, I mean "franchise and then trade."

You cannot trade a franchised player unless he agrees. That is blatantly true. How can you?

I understood you to be saying that if we franchise Asante, he might BOTH refuse to play for the Patriots AND refuse to be traded. Have I misunderstood you?

If Asante says "I refuse to be traded. I demand to receive my $7.9M and play for the Patriots in 2007", I will be quite happy. I can think of no other way to spend $7.9M that would improve our pass defense as much as retaining Asante would.

I thought that the only reason why trading Asante came up, was the belief that he would hold out on the Patriots if they franchised him.
