red sox trade for all star of kyle schwarber send nationals minor league pitcher

I don't think he was allowed to do what he wanted.

I was on Cape Cod (Dennisport) this past week, and heard/read that supposedly the GM was given permission to do what he wanted at the deadline...

they hired Chaim Bloom to be Chaim Bloom...put together a MLB roster with little budget and build the farm system. If you want to know what we will look like as a franchise in the future, see the what the Tampa Rays are now. This ownership group has accomplished what they set out to do in the beginning and that is bring a World Series to Boston.

You are giving him far too much credit for tampas success in the past. He was never in charge like he is with the sox. Tampa has never won a world series. I don't want to be Tampa. Bloom pissed this season away. He didn't have to mortgage the farm system to help the team this year. And the trade he did make is a complete failure.

And that's justification for them to rest on their laurels now?

no, i didn't mean to justify their approach. It sucks what they are doing. I was just giving an explanation of how things are going to be for now and in the future with this owner/front office group. i wish they would sell to Theo and let him run the whole damn thing

Injured Reserve Money$43,580,500--$43,580,500$28,738,374
Suspended/Restricted Money$649,500--$649,500$649,500
Retained Salary$32,826,312$125,000-$32,951,312$32,951,312
Deferred Salary$4,018,452--$4,018,452$4,018,452
Buried Minor Salary$3,158,500--$3,158,500$432,910
Total Payroll$203,257,312$200,044-$203,457,356$182,081,794

For those misguided fans who believe that Bloom and the Saux were no longer financially handicapped coming into this season, understand only 60% of payroll money spent this year has performed on the field to date while the team has been brushing up against the cap.

Forget about the injured reserve payouts, dead money and deferred salaries combined added up to $37 mill in '21... and sadly $20 mill in '22.
***** and moan all you want, Bloom has had one hand tied behind his back all year.
Non-performing payroll, cap constraints, and ownership unwilling to exceed financial parameters for short term benefit.

From my lofty perch, it has been pretty clear to me this current squad is incredibly flawed and also very lucky to achieve a high win total mostly supported by unsustainable late inning heroics. Unfortunately,162 game seasons rarely hide what teams really are....and the beat downs performed by the Astros in every game played should have been enough of a reality check to understand the true nature of this team.

There is no cap. It is a luxury tax. There is a big difference between the two. You can go over the tax without significant penalties as long as you don't three years in a row. They didn't have to spend big dollars to trade for rizzo or another first baseman. Nobody on this board suggested they should go get max scherzer. If money is the reason for the lack of moves. That's sad.

I wonder, has a team ever acquired a player before July 31st and then salary-dumped him (& others) before August 31st?

Let's see how it plays out.

I think with Sale back it could be one of the best pitching rotations in baseball. Provided he comes back close to himself. And with this offense, when healthy, is the best in the league. It just got better with Schwarber.
I hate the idea of rushing Sale back. Hate it.
