Red Sox Globe Again Shows it Doesn't Know (or Care) About Football

Holy smokes, shmessy. The Globe runs a huge, fawning 12-page special section on the Patriots today, fronted by a full-page drawing of Bill Belichick with the caption "GREAT WORK" -- but you determine they're conspiring against the Pats in the name of Red Sox hegemony because they miscaptioned a photo of Berk Najarian?

When you have to dig that deep for evidence to confirm your hypothesis, it may be time to find a new hypothesis.

Read the thread title, Patchick. They do not know or care about football.

And I did not make this thread about the Globe "conspiring" anything.

Their sports department is ignorant of the sport.

Their editors don't know the difference between Caserio and Najerian. That photo is almost a third of a page of the sports section on Super Bowl Sunday.

And I didn't make the original mention. Bedard, Patchick. Bedard.

If that's not notable to you, fine. Bedard used to work there and left for more of a real football job. He facepalmed. And according to his tweet, this isn't even the first time it happened.

The title? It doesn't say "Bedard" anything. It says RED SOX. And then the one sentence you wrote says Sox again. Whatever do the Red Sox have to do with this...except for the conspiracy theory that the Globe has secret agenda to diss the Patriots in order to help the Sox?

Right now the paper is producing 10X its normal football content. It's hardly surprising that some low-level employee pressed into service to caption photos doesn't know every Patriots front-office exec on sight. It means nothing, especially in this era when every paper has been forced to slash its proofreading budget.

Bedard is the one who intially facepalmed his reaction in his tweet out to the public about it. I'm in pretty good company there, Patchick.

In the newpaper business, there is something called an Editor. At the Globe, in their Sports Department, they have several sport editors - headed by Joe Sullivan . There is no way this was not shown to them and then to him before hitting the copy.

This was a major sized photo on Super Bowl Sunday.

Greg Bedard facepalmed and pointed out that this was the second time it happened. He saw it as something facepalmable. He also saw it as something not to privately text to his former colleagues at the Globe, but to publicly tweet to the masses. He used to work for those very editors at that paper.

Most people would see that above sentence as something noteworthy. I understand some don't and that's fine. We could be wrong and the Globe is doing a fine job of their Patriots coverage.
