Reason Harry was drafted over Brown Samuel revealed.

The Pats were broke because Brady left. Had he signed an extension….we would have had enough cap space to NOT pay Cam Newton a million bucks.
That’s not how cap space works. It wasn’t wholly dependent on Brady. Their dead cap was spread out over dozens of players. And it wasn’t all dead cap, Gilmore had one of the biggest cap charges in the entire league. They borrowed from his contract twice in prior years to open cap space to sign players at the trade deadline. They were the NFL version of broke.
And maybe Giselle cuts ties earlier? So many ifs, could as, shoulda, & woulda beens here to make a definitive decision.
Pretty sure Tom was putting family first, and even if he wasn’t Tampa was the best team in the NFL with no QB, they could afford to pay him and he didn’t have to pay state tax. He was gone no matter what.

The Brady worshippers need to move on with their lives.

13.5 dead cap money……

13.5 dead cap money……
And? That doesn’t disappear when he signs a new deal, it gets absorbed into the new contract.

A third of the team's entire salary cap in 2020 was being used on dead cap and one active player in Gilmore. Also the remainder of the dead cap was spread out over seventy players.

It was from years of kicking the salary cap down the road... not just a couple bad deals in 2019. Gilmore's cap hit alone in 2020 was more than Brady, Bennett and AB’s dead cap combined… and his was the largest cap hit in 2021 even after all the other expensive signings.

The team was broke, they had no money to replace 12 starters or major contributors… including QB, the most expensive position in football.

The 2020 team sucking was inevitable. Tom wasn’t staying for a rebuild at 43 years old. Stop sniffing glue.

The cap can be managed. It was possible for Brady to stick around cap-wise.

And 2020 sucking wasn't inevitable. Swap out Cam for Brady...add in A.J. Brown year 2 leap...and that team makes the playoffs. We had a good defense that year and if Hoyer didn't royally screw up in K.C. and Cam didn't get COVID....I think we even make the playoffs without Brady/AJ Brown.

Anything’s possible… that doesn’t make it smart. It was time to rebuild.

The 2020 team sucked no matter what, and the notion that Brady at 43 should eat crap for a year while the team clears up it’s cap debt is silly… especially with his marriage on the line.

They win at least one more ring with Brady.

Kraft chose... poorly.

The 2019 team was bad the second half of the season. If Brady stayed they would have had to cut players, and they had no money to spend on improving the team.
The 2020 defense was one of the couple of worst of the BB era.

They were 4 games out a tie breaker for the playoffs.
They weren’t making the playoffs and they weren’t winning a championship before Brady retired if he had stayed

Brady was a free agent, it’s the “free” part that has you confused.

Agree to disagree. In 2020, I felt that we had a chance to win every game aside from a few (Rams blow out in LA)…and felt that if we had Brady…that team is 10-6 at minimum. Then you factor in us drafting Brown..maybe Gronk even decides to unretire mid-season…. So many factors to make any kind of definitive proclamation.

Not the year before when they could have committed to him like he wanted.

I don't think so. The team overall from 2020-2023 were pretty bad. Brady signing a contract would've made things even worse. We're also forgetting Gilmore wanted a new deal and was dogging it in 2020.

Bob and Bill did him a solid by letting him go. Bill on the other hand, should've retired after 2019. After a year, there would've been a contending team ready for him. Staying with the Pats was a mistake.

Huh? We were blown out in a number of those losses.
We lost 5 games by double digits.

If you kept Brady you had to cut a number of players. Gronk couldn’t be afforded. We devolved into a .500 team in 2019 and were worse in 2020.
And 10 wins wouldn’t be a playoff team.

Tom taking less and agreeing to one year deals for multiple seasons helped them win multiple rings.

You enjoyed those championships so stop whining.

So many horrible draft picks by BB to choose from
Yeah, man! Aside from drafting the greatest QB of all-time, drafting the greatest TE of all-time, and drafting a HOF defensive end, he totally sucked!

Late BB was baad dude....

I don't get why people can't seem to grasp the concept of time. Ability over time is never a straight line. Belichick was good. Then he got worse.

And it doesn't diminish what he did in the past. I don't think there's anybody who would say Belichick's ALWAYS been bad at drafting players. Just that in the last 3-5, his ability slipped. That's all.

I think he lost track of it all with Sanu

Such a ****ing stupid day to this day
