I know the pats are on the brink of a playoff run and some users here are gonna call taboo or wonder why now but I'm watching espn here and it got me thinking.

Jim Harbaugh took the Michigan job today. He's had a really, really good resume to date. I think he's legit and was easy top 3 coach in nfl. He doesn't stick with a job longer than 4 years. He gets antsy and apparently also controlling.

I feel like the brady/bill run will be over for both of them within 5 seasons.

If that's the case and Harbaugh is out there in Michigan waiting for a return to the nfl. Do you do it?

I'd in a heartbeat. Other than bill belechick there's no one I'd rather have more.

Thoughts?

You want us to speculate if Harbaugh happens to be angtsy about his Michigan coaching role in 2019 and if that year happens to coincide with when Belichick decides to retire? Is that right?

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

I think it's pretty obvious what I want you to do.

Weather you'd go after him or not.

What I speculate on is irrelevant.

Um, Yes. I don't see any reason to not go after the best prospects available if we are without a coach.

ETA: I also don't think he gets antsy. His moving on from coaching jobs previously was mostly due to promotion. His leaving the 49ers was them pushing him out not him wanting to leave because he was tired of coaching them.

Heck, I'm not even prepared to look into threads talking about FAs available for next year. Can't get myself to think about breaking Harbaugh if year 5 of his 7 year contract with Michigan.

Maybe Brady still has a year of eligibility and wants to give Michigan one last try too.

I don't see Harbaugh as a good fit for Jonathan Kraft.

When the time comes, I think it is far more likely that J. Kraft continues with a coach from the Belichick tree and the more numbers-driven analytical approach that has worked so well. I don't see him going with a mouth-breather like Harbaugh.

If cloning Belichick and Brady isn't an option, and we had our choice of any HC to be Belichick's heir apparent, I want Chip Kelly.

Also, if you have to advocate for a Harbaugh, you're advocating for the wrong one.

In five years? Steve Belichick. Easy

Tom Brady. He'd have to kill BB and appoint Jimmy. At least that's how I understand the sith master-apprentice relationship.

Harbaurg would be 58 or so by then? IMHO to old, since Patriots gonna need a complete rebuild.

I think BOB gonna get it, or is do i hope Some years in Texans to learn and grain experience and he should be ready. Atleast my guess would be, the NeXT coach in Patriots is MAX 46-47 years old right now.

58 is too old? Holy s###...and what makes you think they'll need a complete rebuild?

Yes i think 58 is old for a new HC when you need a new regime. New regime is new schemes, players, coaches etc.. if you hope to get a HC for the NeXT 10-15 years, then starting at 58 is abit to much.
But Again, Pete Carroll was around that age when he came to Seattle...

No, and hell no.

i would rather not have a coach then have him as our coach. he is a completely unlikable *******, and can't manage to keep the loyalty and love of his own players.

he isn't with the 49ers because they kicked him out.

you dont dump a coach with that record without a reason.

Alright- I can see a lot of people think the OP is going too too far at the wrong time. I don't know if I agree, but it could be for sure.

That said, if we're going to play a wild game of what-if, then I'm going to go ahead and jump in for the heck of it. Maybe we can turn a somewhat awkward thread into something fun to read in a few years in the archives. Let's call this The Patriots in 2020. Predict the future as much as you can. Here's a piece from 2020 by Patriots returning beat reporter BenVolin. (Because that paper would make the same mistake twice.)

NFL 2020 (The Patriots)
Last season, in a typical Patriots move, the team moved on from incumbent quarterback Tom Brady. Solidifying his role as the greatest quarterback of all time, Brady reunited with 49ers coach Josh McDaniels and won his record-breaking sixth Superbowl on his first year with the new team. Now retired, Brady is expecting his fourth child with model Giselle Bundchen and is expanding his health facilities to aid athletes with addiction problems. Former Patriot Wes Welker is also involved after being successfully treated by the clinic for both a substance problem as well as post-concussion symptoms after playing too many seasons with Peyton Manning carelessly throwing into traffic. (Fresh off another neck surgery, last year's MVP Peyton Manning says he probably won't call it quits with the Rob Ryan led Jets this season. A good decision after being the first QB to win an MVP while on a 3-win team.)

The AFC-Champion Patriots, meanwhile, look forward to another great season under Jimmy Garappolo. Patriots coach Matt Patricia said he looks forward to further developing the record-setting offensive juggernaut under new Offensive Coordinator Sean Payton. "Yeah. I thought they looked pretty good last year, more or less" said the now verbose new Sunday Night Football color commentator Bill Belichick.
