Yes i think 58 is old for a new HC when you need a new regime. New regime is new schemes, players, coaches etc.. if you hope to get a HC for the NeXT 10-15 years, then starting at 58 is abit to much.
But Again, Pete Carroll was around that age when he came to Seattle...
You tell me how many coaches in the NFL last 10-15 years with the same team. We both know the answer: other than Coughlin and Belichick, ZERO.
 
I wish Bruce Arians was 10 years younger - that would make him perfect for the next Patriots coach.

But he's nearly the same age as BB.
 
The season after BB retires, the majority of the roster (and a large majority weighted by contract or other measures of value) will be returning players. So the default choice will be to have continuity in both coaching style and scheme.

Possibilities we can name now include Josh McD, BOB, Brian Daboli and Matt Patricia. More will arise before BB actually departs.

Besides, unless BB leaves the job feet first, I expect the Krafts to talk him into staying on for a transition period as overall head of football operations.
