During the Pats dynasty, there was certainly a lot more starters that saw the field for at least one drive in the 1st preseason games. Now Bill is doing what all other teams do and don't think his starters need any reps despite having a losing record 2 of the last 3 seasons.

Two words: joint practices.

last night was a complete dumpster fire for the offense - and the defense's performance was grossly overrated. But this is about the offense. And to draw some sort of comparison, and by the Grace of God I hope this changes....last night's schittshow on offense...as I mentioned before, they were 25% on third down, an abomination....in the last 2 preseasons, the pre season third down % has been similar to the regular season (good vs garbage).
There was no preseason the Cam Newton year...but in 2021 they were a respectable, workable 44% on third down in the practice games and, voila, they were were 44% in the regular season...last year with the Fat Load, they were a poor 30% on third down in games that don't count and in regular season they were an almost as bad 35% on third downs....so we have a slight trend with the post-Brady offense...let's hope they improve on third down for thee next two games that don't count..Bill O'Brien the offensive guru should have these guys up to 45%, right - minimum

Yes, but who?

I watched Dawand Jones the other night. PASS.

He was the only one available at Mapu's spot.

Otherwise, if you wanted a tackle, then erase Keion White or Christian Gonzalez.

Since you asked...

I actually wanted one of the TEs, Darnell Washington or Tucker Kraft, at 76; BYU's Blake Freeland was already the best available OT, but if it weren't for the sudden concern about his knee(s), Chocolate Gronk would've been an early 2nd-round pick... He would've been the perfect blocking complement to Double-H & Gesicki.

I instead would've taken Freeland with my first pick of the 4th round, after I traded #107 & one of my late picks to either Houston or Chicago so I could leap-frog the Indy bloodClots. Had Bill insisted on #80 instead of #120 from ****tsdirt, I would've made the same trade they did with the Panthers and taken Freeland at #93... If and Only If I had already secured Freeland would I have entertained thoughts of taking Dawand Jones at #107.

if I were unable to make any of those moves, then I would've likely taken UPitt's Carter Warren at #107 ahead of the Jete.

There was also Georgia's Warren McClendon at #144... or Maryland's Jaelyn Duncan at #184... Heck even a couple of raw, athletic projects like Jake Witt & Ryan Hayes were taken after Ameer Speed was...

You have to remember that no one in the early rounds was interested in mid round picks. The Patriots didn't even want to take Mapu there. They were trying desperately to trade down. And trade ups with these worthless later round picks were even more difficult.

The Patriots were up front about the low value of all their extra picks.

We'll have to wait and see whether McClendon or Duncan are better than Sow.

As for Freeland, I said it multiple times on this board that I didn't want him. He was tossed around like a rag doll during the all star games.

Carter Warren is maybe the guy that got away--should've taken him instead of Andrews?

He actually played a lot of Right Guard after Russey's injury.

Correct: Stubby played a lot of Left Tackle; don't remember if he played any at RT...

Maybe, but I think the Siddy the Sow experiment at RT needs to end, soon. He was Horrible out there.
Thanks, Capt. I wasn't sure if Ferentz was LG or RG but felt like LG made more sense, based on the snaps of others. If he was playing RG, that must have meant Hines was at LG? Unless I'm missing something.

Based on usage looks like Mafi and Douglas are locks . McDermott and Steuber have high probability of panning out. Looks like sidy sow has a probability of being first 4th rounder to be cut or get the foxborough flu. I don't see him making the 53 now.

Russey, Hines are definitely getting cut along with Nixon. His high snap counts indicate he is just cp body.

A reminder how good the pats pass rush was when judon, uche & barmore played:

The main takeaway is white. He showed he has the athleticism to play on the EDGE rather than being primarily an inside player. They'll be able to have uche & white rush from the outside and move judon around. This group has a chance to be as good as any in the NFL IMO.
Bye bye Uche. We are not picking your contract.

Bill spent a 4th round pick on Sow who they could have probably had as an UDFA with this profile

"Missing the fundamentals"... oof.

Bill or whoever the next GM is... it's time to start paying up for real talent up front not invest picks or $ for projects.
This guy is gonna get cut. 100% . First 4tg rounder in history of pats. It's okay considering we hit few 6th rounders and first 3 rounds. Don't want him to take any spot in 53. Doesn't deserve it.

You're saying this about a guy who was moved to tackle from guard after one preseason game?

Your graphics left out an athletic score of 86, by the way. He's got the hands and the feet, but he's raw and needs development. Bad angles in college dropped his production score considerably, but he's athletic enough (like pretty much everyone they drafted).

I doubt he's getting cut, and if he is, he'll be back on the PS.

I don't think that is the case at all... With a limited number of contact/pads practices and one less pre-season game there are fewer reps and opportunities to evaluate rookies etc when it matters - during contact, be it in drills or on the field...

BB cut Mills, the TE from Tulsa in 2007. He was a 4th round pick

Holy crap our o-line was bad. Was a problem last year and the year before that. Really no idea what BB is doing

You think the new O-Line Coach had them prepared? It starts with Coaching.
BB is paying him real good money, 3 times more than a average O-Line Coach earns.
I will be keeping my eye on the Rams, and their new O-line Coach, Ryan Wendell, who we interviewed, and I was hoping we sign.
Yes BB hired Klem but BB didn't do enough off season to fix the OL problem. IMO great coach shifty GM
