i remember seeing sammy in a couple of games back in 2000 with the bills, and i thought he did pretty good for a b.u., so maybe he's not as bad as everybody thinks. i certainly dont see mills being a lock for the team, so i would predict that we'll have a spot open, and we should add another back. im in favor of drafting a back. i think we have to. maroney has not proven to be the next barry sanders, and as everyone has pointed out, faulk is a great 3rd down back. im sure maroney will be fine, but im all in favor of having some insurance, just in case. check sammys stats...not too bad.

2 words - Patrick Cobbs. Or if they like Darius Walker I'm OK with him in a later round.

Maroney, Faulk, Evans, Morris, X - we keep 5 and the more I think the more I like adding Walker to eventually replace Faulk as our 3rd down back.

Mills is an H-back and if he can play ST then he sticks.

It's not like the Morris signing was an impulsive decision. They were close to signing him last time he was a free agent (2004?) and I think they had their eye on him during the draft too.

If Maroney goes down and we are screwed... We need a nother back.

It is not if he goes down, it is when. It has more to do with the nature of the position than Maroney. Very few RBs can take heavy carries all year without missing some action.

I expect the Pats to draft a RB in rounds 3-5 that will help the depth / special teams. Looking at the current group all the players contribute on special teams which is a real plus from a roster perspective and likely one of the reasons Dillion was let go. Giving one of 45 spots to someone who touches the ball 8-12 times and doesn't factor in STs is expensive.

Faulk - punt returner
Maroney - kick returner
Morris - coverage
Evans - coverage
Mills - not really a RB but can play on coverage units

Potential draft picks
- they could go big, small or in between, hard to say
- looks to be a good selection of day 2 picks

big - Bush, Hunt, Battle, Henry
small - Booker, Walker
in between - Smith, Jackson, Wynn, Wright, Clifton

I'm privy to Bush who could be the goal-line back and move to primary back in a pinch.

I'm starting to think Morris was signed more to play ST and is more of a replacement for Tebucky Jones.

If we carry five backs, I would expect one to be inactive unless he is a top Ster. The point is that bb has started 2006 and 2005 with at least five backs, and there is no reason to believe that this year will be any different.

IMHO, Morris replaced Pass, and is an upgrade.
Maroney, Faulk and Evans are back.

We have not replaced Dillon, who would have shared time with Maroney (less time than Maroney) and would have been the man in short yardage situations.

And, obviously, we need another contributing body in case of injury. Do we need to be reminded that the inability to field even one healthy back in the second half against Indy was a factor in our loss.

Apparently, posters would prefer have four backs instead of the 5-6 that bb prefers.

Didn't we start 2005 with just three on the roster? Dillon, Faulk, and Pass? That definitely came back to bite is in the butt.
