I left out 2017 because it's still too early to judge

UDFAs should count. It's the same scouting department scouting & recruiting these players to sign here.

2014 B+

1. Malcolm Butler - The best CB in his draft class & a top 10 pick in a redraft. stud

2. James White - upper echelon receiving RB. Superbowl beast.

3. Jimmy Garoppolo - elite backup play for 4 seasons. Helped us get the 1 seed last season. Potential franchise QB. May get something in return.

Stork - solid starter on a SB winning team
Fleming - tackle depth

2015: A

1. Trey Flowers - stud. Going to be an animal this season. 1st round pick in a redraft.

2. Malcolm Brown - above average starting DT. Just turning 23; has room to grow.

3. Shaq Mason - above average starting G. Eite run blocker, improving pass blocker.

4. David Andrews - The best C of the 2015 draft. Solid player with limitations.

5, A.J Derby - 2017 5th round pick.

Cardona - starting LS

2016: B+ given draft capital

1. Joe Thuney - starting LG

2. Malcolm Mitchell - depth WR/starter on many teams. Probably no SB victory without him.

3. Vincent Valentine - depth DT with room to improve.

4. Ted Karras - versatile depth OL that can start at C or G in a pinch. Played well weeks 1-2 last season.

5. Jonathan Jones - 4th CB + ST gunner

C. Jones, Brissett, Roberts, Lucien - one contributor out of the 4 would be a win

Maybe I'm a homer but our production from each draft class has been near the top of the league. It's been unconvential with Butler, Flowers & Andrews.

My votes are in bold.

Constantly picking at the bottom of every round, missing out on clear "cant miss" talents, and constantly finding players that can contribute, resulting in multiple titles in the years following said drafts. It can be fun to be a hindsight hero, but looking forward the team is in a really good spot, and these three drafts are why.

2014, complete hit or miss. Jimmy, Malcom and White are hits. Fleming is not complete yet, he's developing. Stork while a headcase did center us to a SB win. A-

2015, killed it in the 4th round with Flowers, Jackson and Mason. Brown is a promising DT. The rest is a whole bunch of meh at best. B+

2016, too early to tell. Thuney and Mitchell look like hits. Valentine and Roberts are tons of potential and look promising. Cyrus Jones is Cyrus Jones. B

In what sane universe is tre Jackson a hit?

Maybe I'm a homer but our production from each draft class has been near the top of the league. It's been unconvential with Butler, Flowers & Andrews.

NFL players acquired in trade for draft picks should count, too.

Without including those trades or UDFAs (IOW, actual picks only) ...

In 2014, the Pats spent 1,115 value chart points. That's roughly the value of the #14 overall pick (Kyle Fuller, CB, Bears). For that, they got:
... Garoppolo
... Stork (for awhile)
... James White
... Cam Fleming

In 2015, for 1,238 points (slightly less than the chart value of the #11 overall pick = Trae Waynes, CB, Vikings), they got:
... Malcom Brown
... Richards (ST)
... Grissom (ST
... Flowers
... Shaq Mason
... Joe Cardona
(plus AJ Derby, the #202 pick who got them the #163 from Denver - which turned into Gillislee in 2017)

In 2016, for 839 points (slightly less than the #20 overall = OT Taylor Decker, Lions), the Pats got:
... Thuney
... Brissett
... Valentine
... Mitchell
... Roberts
... Karras
... Lucien

The Bears, Vikings and Lions got potential stars. The Pats got a team and two rings. I'd say that the Pats use of draft capital has been pretty decent.

Just looking at draft picks. I am basing my rubric on did the Patriots find 3 players who should start in the league for the average team.

2014: 3 role players (Jimmy G, James White, Cameron Fleming) of whom 1 has a deal past his rookie contract already and 1 has the potential to be critical in 2018 to 2028.

C+ Jimmy G is the key; if he is the intentional starting QB for the Patriots in 2018 or 2019, this is an A+

2015: 3 Starters (Brown, Flowers, Mason); 2 have Pro Bowl upside (Flowers/Mason). 3 Special Teamers (Grissom/Cardona/Richards) and one guy who got his value back in trade (Derby).

B+/A- as the Patriots got their 3 guys who can play

2016: 1 Starter (Thuny), 3 key role players (Mitchell, Valentine, Karras), 1 competent but replacable reserve (Roberts) 1 developmental prospect (Brissett)

B who knows what Cyrus Jones will do; in 2017 it looks like the Patriots will hav gotten their 3 guys who can play in the league and then some. Not as much upside as 2015
