Rams defensive line - how much disruption will it cause?

Dak was sacked 56 times this year. Only Deshaun Watson was sacked more.

FWIW- The Rams didn’t sack him at all in their divisional game

You know, I think you make an excellent point. I never really thought about those Giants Super Bowl losses for what they were. A strong D-line could tee off on TB12 because there just wasn't a threat to run.
That's one of the reasons why Sammy Morris was such a big, if overlooked, loss.

Shaq Mason is exactly the physical build that neutralizes what someone of Donald's size does.......leverage and 1st step. Donald gets his first step, he's a human highlight film......blocker locks on, he gets blown out

As for Suh, I am not as worried because the pats have seen him plenty of times.....that kind of leopard doesn't change it's spots

size is still an issue, and if the Pats use the 21 or 22 formation, they will move the pile

why do people keep saying this, isn't Thuney going to be lined up on top of donald???

We don’t know where they will have Donald line up. I expect them to move him around a little. Thuney lines up in the same place every play.

I saw the Pats play the Rams in Foxboro in 2016 and in that game Donald was a non factor. I only recall a couple tackles, no real pressure and in general I'd say he looked small and got pushed around a lot. I was expecting much more from him based on the probowl selection and evrything being written about the kid at the time but in the end I remember leaving the game wondering what all the hype was about. I expect a steady dose of James Devlin on him in the run game and the double teams will go to suh.

Just a bad game imo. Von Miller was also a non factor in his team losing to the Pats with Tebow. The past sometimes is not a great predictor of things.

You could be right....or not. At the end of the day, none of us know how any of these guys are going to play Sunday. I’m just saying the last time he went against Belichick it didn’t go very well for him.

not based on what I saw against the Saints......he was over the RG on many plays

EDIT: I just watched a bunch of plays.....he lines up in both spots

Comments:

a.) The Rams play a 3-4...but usually have a LB at the LOS so it is a "4-3 Look".

b.) They will move Donald around for sure.

c.) Agree with comments regarding outside runs and wham blocks. Basically, just stay away from the middle and expect the DL to try to bat down any passes over the middle.

d.) Brady will need to move off his spot now and then if he lines up under center, but in the shotgun...I think he'll be fine getting rid of the ball quickly.

Doesn't matter to me. Pats ol is very strong on both sides and the middle.
Donald likely makes a play or 2, but our ol can handle him regardless of where he lines up.
As you pointed out earlier, rams biggest weakness on d is runstopping. They suck at it. But t they're very good vs. rbs passcatching.
Another 100 yd game from Sony.

I'd suspect that he'd be lined up over Thuney quite a bit. Thuney presents a much more favorable match-up for Donald than Mason does.

Their run D stunk during the regular season because Suh underperformed

They’ve been great in the postseason with a motivated Suh

Personally, I don't think the last post-season games matter. In 2007, the Pats O-line did pretty well in the playoffs. One sack to Jacksonville and 2 sack to the Chargers. But in the SB, Brady was battered and the Giants sacked him five times. In the regular season game, the Giant only sacked him once and he put up close to 400 yards in total offense. The SB is different. It is about whoever shows up that day. If the Rams have less than 2 sacks, I think the Pats will win. If they sack him 3 or more, it will be a long night.

The key match-up there is obviously whomever is assigned to block Donald. After that, I'd say it's Brown vs. Fowler. Fowler has actually put together a pretty solid postseason.
I'm not concerned about Trent Brown on any edge rusher.

That Giants team tied a record with 12 sacks in one game during the regular season (Philly), so there were some indicators of what that front was capable of. I think Spagnuolo out-coached McDaniels.

McDaniels definitely out-coached McDaniels. That’s my biggest fear on 2/3.

The more I think about it the more I believe that Dante Scarnecchia belongs in the Hall of Fame. Donald is exceptional, and their line can be really good, but in Scar I Trust, I am certain they are going to have a great game plan for this game.
