So, I know that Brady has led last minute drives that resulted in game winning fg's - duh - but has there ever been a last minute drive that resulted in a game winning TD? Two minutes or under. Baltimore 2007 does not count. Apparently, 2009 game one against Bills doesn't count either because they started at the Bills 32. I am having a debate with a Jets fan and he has lots, and lots of stipulations in his argument in order to make himself look better. Anyway, I can't think of one. I blame old age. Anyone?

Bears in 02
Broncos in 03
come to mind immediately. I'll post more if they come

Brady to Troy Brown to beat Miami. If your friend says OT doesn't count and that it has to be in the last two minutes then don't even bother continuing the debate.

I'm looking at the parameters your friend set forth again, and I'm wondering this: how many last minute drives that result in a game winning touchdown have any other quarterbacks thrown?

According to him drives that end in a rushing touchdown to win the game don't count, drives that end in a winning field goal don't count, go-ahead touchdowns at the end of the game that simply tie the score don't count, 4th quarter comebacks that happen with more than two minutes left don't count, a go-ahead TD pass that goes for naught because the defense couldn't hold the opponent doesn't count, and now - best of all - drives that started too close (e.g., the Buffalo game cited above) don't count either.

Your friend is setting up ridiculous standards, and with no point of reference for comparison. How many other quarterbacks have done what he has demanded, and how many times have they done it? How many times does Brady, or any other quarterback get the ball with all the specifications for this discussion - down by at least four but no more than six with under two minutes to go and I guess at least sixty or maybe seventy yards to go for a touchdown? Why should a team be expected to throw for a touchdown when they only need a field goal to win? And why should that winning field goal be held against them, as if it was somehow not good enough; that the team should have won by more?

By the way, courtesy of the Pats' website: Tom Brady - Official New England Patriots Biography

  • Brady has orchestrated 29 game-winning drives to break a tie or take the lead in the fourth quarter or overtime. Six of his game-winning efforts have come in the postseason, where he has played in 18 games.
  • Brady led a game-winning drive to break a tie or take the lead in the fourth quarter of each of the Patriots’ three Super Bowl victories, becoming the only quarterback in NFL history to lead three such game-winning drives in the Super Bowl.

If you're making a case for Brady, as the OP has apparently been put in the position of doing, then you could change the words from 'game-winning' to 'go-ahead' and he's four for four.

Thanks guys. My friend is a Jets fan and absolutely hates the Patriots. Understood. Anyway, his point was that Brady has never done it and Manning has done it multiple times. Therefore "Peyton Manning is light years ahead of Brady" - his words.

You should also point out to your friend that if you arent losing you cant have a come from behind win, and since Brady has the best winning percentage in history, there have been few opportunities.

Why even bother debating this with your friend? Its obvious that your friend thinks Brady is the worst QB to ever play in the NFL. Brady could have perfect stats, never get an incompletion, and it sounds like your friend would still find something wrong with Brady. I mean with the restrictions he's putting on this debate, I'm surprised he didn't say how many TD's has Brady had while "in the grasp" or some ****.

Sometimes its just better to let haters hate, cuz you'll never convince them otherwise. Its kinda like that old saying 'never argue with an idiot cuz they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience'. Or however the saying goes.

So true... So true.

The problem is you are arguing with a Jets' fan. To even argue that Brady hasn't come through in the clutch is like saying complaining that Reggie Miller never hit a three pointer to win the NBA finals, so his legacy is not up to par. What about the Colts game in '07 when he led the Pats to two TDs in the final quarter against an outstanding defense, or the three (could have been four) 4th quarter drives to win Super Bowls. Let me guess, the Jets fan are going to proclaim that Sanchez is the best quarterback in the division. I can already see it coming....

GOING to proclaim Sanchez the best? They already have!!! I think a lot of them have already booked their hotel rooms for Dallas in February too. Clearly, four games into the season, they are the prohibitive favorites to win it all.
