QB School's Week 6 Mac Jones Analysis

But they aren’t. There are passes open down the middle. He’s just not seeing them because he’s scared to step up.

How can that be possible when all the Pats WRs suck and dont get open?

Exactly… I’m so tired of hearing “there’s no weapons”… Sure, they don’t have any stars, but they are getting open plenty. Mac just doesn’t see it and is throwing it way off somewhere else and throwing it inaccurately to boot. You’ll see him throw a dying floater to Gesicki in double coverage near the sideline that falls incomplete while Bourne is running free over the middle for a likely touchdown if he had seen him and stepped up. You could put Davante Adams or Mike Evans on this squad but it wouldn’t matter if Mac was scared to throw it to him or never even looked his way in the first place.

Here is the way that I see it.

When Jones got drafted in 2021, he looked all world to the naked eye, so the Pats turned him loose in 2022 under Patricia. Jones was supposed to make Patricia not the other way around. They thought that Jones was ready to compete with the bigtime QBs. So, the Pats let him throw downfield in the beginning of the 22 season like the Burrows, Allens and Mahomes. But, the 2021 Buffalo 2 INT post season loss was very telling. The Pats beating Buffalo that season was also troubling because the Pats would not let Jones throw in the 40 mph wind.

Not to worry though because you can supposedly build arm strength in the off season. Every 2022 INT had NE players open and the blocking was good enough. Did not matter though because Patricia got blamed for the train wreck and holding Jones back.

Here we are today and the NFL defenses have film out the ying yang on Jones. A NE WR with a step in single coverage is open in the NFL., but Jones can seldom make that throw. He is not a QB who is in command out there matching wits with the opposing DC.

BB has built a team with many good players that he can plug in when another guy goes down. He has spread the risk out as best he can.

This discussion could be a lot more worthwhile if we would decline to embrace and insist on such childishly crude dichotomies as "Mac Haters" vs. "Mac Lovers." A cursory glance at the news any evening will disclose the damage such lazy habits can do to a community.
CAN IT, LIBTARD!

jk

Risky joke

This is why I say it's impossible to honestly asses this team's talent when Mac is the QB.

The wild part is the same fans who watched Brady thread the needle for nearly 2 decades suddenly forgot NFL receivers are rarely wide open. Brady would make a living throwing where only the receivers can catch it because they were often be covered.

He had arguably four key receivers in his elite years - Moss, Jules, Welker, Gronk. 3/4 of them literally had the job of running into traffic for tight catches.

Obviously Mac is no Brady in his elite era so we don’t expect him to bust 5k yards. But he has left a lot of throws on the field for whatever reason (lack of confidence in tight throws? Didn’t read play? Hearing ghosts?)

Today’s Mac is what we expect from him. 250ish yards, 1-2 td, 0 INT. He was finally accurate in tighter windows and wasn’t off the mark at all (except for a handful of bad throws which happen)

These are all the same receivers. The line got healthier but it wasn’t THAT different than many previous games.

Today helped prove what I said earlier. Belichick actually built a solid roster to Mac’s strengths. He’s not winning shootouts. But he just needs to play good enough to win. And despite what many think, he has the weapons.

If they had Gonzalez and Judon in, I’d actually feel pretty good about Miami considering how they handled them last time.
