Tom Brady and the Patriots Offense are the Best When the Defense Fails

http://www.patspulpit.com/2015/3/25...s-offense-are-the-best-when-the-defense-fails

Football Perspective's Chase Stuart decided to run the numbers of every quarterback since 1960 to see what their record was in games where their defense allowed 21 or more points. In 106 games, Brady has a record of 60-46, or .566. According to his expectations, Brady has 33.5 more wins that would be expected of any quarterback with 106 games.

This is the most wins above expectation of any quarterback in his data set. The Patriots offense wins more games than any other when the defense comes up short, and we all know how much offensive success is linked to quarterback prowess (answer: a lot).

Out of quarterbacks with 20+ appearances, Brady has the best winning percentage as one of four quarterbacks with a .500 or better winning rate (Otto Graham, 0.548; Daryle Lamonica, 0.543; Joe Montana, 0.500). According to Stuart's data, teams win roughly 25% of the time when their defense allows 21+ points, and Brady's Patriots win over twice as frequently.

Tom Brady is pure GOATness

Manning is only number two because of how many games he's played fitting the criteria. Montana is the only other QB with over 60 games who's at .500

There is no doubt that a couple of folks in top ten (or twenty) of that list are only there cause they play in the post-polian rules era. Inflated scores for winners and losers.

I would be interested to know how many of that are comebacks and how many we just have a good lead and BB decides to play prevent to wind down the clock.

Manning still ranks 8th in percentage. Let's face it, his teams were constructed to score points. If he couldn't win games with more than 21 points, we'd have never heard of him.

On the other hand, Brady has had good and bad defenses, receivers etc. To know when you need to turn it on and be successful is a great accomplishment.

Next game, maybe they run or keep it conservative.

Since 2001 (including 2008) when the Pats allow 21+ points, they have trailed after three quarters 49 times. They're 13–36 in those games (the best record).

When they allow 21+ points and are ahead after three quarters, they're 43–8, again the best record in the NFL.

I would love to compile some of those otherworldly stats about Brady. I remember a stat a few years ago which was QB records when sacked 5+ times, and Brady was the only guy on there with a winning record. There is also the 50+ passing attempts, I believe he is the only QB to win a playoff game with that volume of passes, and he has done it three times.

My favorite stat is from SB 49, in the last three possessions.. coming back from being 10 points down, #12, 13 out of 15 passes completed, 2 TD's and then drawing the Seahawks offside killing the clock..

All the rest is good info, but it is about winning..

Decimating the best Defense in the NFL last year was historic...

This is why we are hated ... the **** that Brady pulls off ...

Old story but worth re-stating. We're in Bucs territory in FL and my wife, enthusiastic about the Pats mentions Brady to a guy delivering some stuff.

Guy: Don't like him!
Wife: (puzzeled) Why?
Guy: Wins too much!

This was Jan 2005 before the AFCCG

The H8 has been burning for a long time

Brady seems to be the most hated sports figure down here. Mostly everybody I know has a burning hatred for him. I'm about 95% sure the people down here hate him more than Drew Brees.
