Purposely hurting the team

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

when the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVI, Glenn did not receive a championship ring... a bit unusual for a guy who actually played 4 games that season... so you know the players felt strongly about his behavior as well.
I don't think the players determine who gets rings. It is the guy who hands them out. There is no NFL requirement to give anyone a ring.

Haven't been a football fan nearly as long as most of you, so I'm still learning some things. Please don't attack me.

I know some people believe Moss gave up on that PI play.

And Mankins returning got me thinking, have players ever been known to purposely hurt the team?

For example, if Mankins wanted revenge, he could just let a DL slide on by him, although I don't know if he'd be that extreme.

Once again, please refrain from attacking me. I know some of you guys love doing it, but if those are your intentions, just save some time and don't reply.
How can you tell if Mankins purposely plays badly or is just having a bad game? It is hard to imagine him playing worse than he did in the Giants superbowl. I think he was just playing crappy. Do you think it was on purpose? And what difference does it make if you don't know know if it was on purpose or not? It's still a crappy game.

I just don't understnand the logic in people thinking he intentionally avoided catching it. I don't think he saw it after he got mugged and recovered. Why didn't he just stop moving completely after the flag? Why did he even go deep if he didn't want to try and make a play? Why did he sell the Favre pass fake so well, which caused the corner to mug him in the first place? People just love trying to pile on. If the play was a miscommunication and moss ran a curl while Favre threw deep, people would claim he intentionally didn't want to go deep. This guy lives on going deep and catching TDs. There is no reason he would not want to make that play, especially against his old team.

Brett Favre has been doing this year in and year out for a good while now, though it's not malicious in intent, so people for whatever reason forgive it.

If you are mad at management, do you tip over your co-workers desk and hurt him?

The players understand the business side of the "game". I don't think there's a player in the NFL that would try to get back at management with something on the field, especially not allowing a teammate to get hit.

This!

Mankins is reportedly loved and respected by his mates. NFW is he going to impact their lives negatively because he's pissed at Kraft or others in management.

Also, he knows that any such screwups hurt his value in other GMs eyes.

Hope this reply is inoffensive enough for the OP.

mankins simply cannot afford to do this for several reasons. one is that he is playing for a contract, and if even the notion of him doing this came out, it would cost him millions. another is his teammates and if these guys who work so hard for so long saw a guy trash the whole thing with one move, well, it would not be pretty. in fact, it would be worse than anything randy moss has ever done.

So, the question is essentially:

Is Logan Mankins a dogfaker?

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Hope Mankins doesn't read this and get any ideas.

Of course not. That guy is playing for his contract and he's still waiting for big money next year either from Pats or another team.

Mankins is playing for his teammates once hes out there, theres no way he doesnt give 100%

Whos the guy?

Remotely related......Alex Karras admitted in his book he intentionally injured the starter's knee in practice so he could start.

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

There is a fine line between "purposefully hurting the team" and "not giving 100%." Moss has done the later in pretty much every game he has played in other than '98 and '07. I expect that Mankins won't give 100%. Purposely mess up, I don't expect to happen.

I agree with you about Moss, recently he was not helping Brady 'be the best they could be' anymore. Witness the Jets game...

However Mankins is a man of pride and I don't think for a minute that he will ever give less than 100% on the field. Not in his DNA.

I am totally against Mankins outrageous comments, by the way, as well as the thumbsuckers that defend him and try to blame Kraft and BB and everybody except Mankins for Mankins' behavior, or try to make him out to be the $30 million dollar 'victim'.

I just don't see any quit in Mankins on the field. He can be beat like anybody on some plays, but not from lack of effort.

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

With Mankins, it will never happen.

1. Character
2. Pride
3. If Brady gets killed because of his mistake, the teammates will call him out. No QB will ever want him. The QB and OL have such a bond that any OL will never ever do such a thing.
