Haven't been a football fan nearly as long as most of you, so I'm still learning some things. Please don't attack me.

I know some people believe Moss gave up on that PI play.

And Mankins returning got me thinking, have players ever been known to purposely hurt the team?

For example, if Mankins wanted revenge, he could just let a DL slide on by him, although I don't know if he'd be that extreme.

Once again, please refrain from attacking me. I know some of you guys love doing it, but if those are your intentions, just save some time and don't reply.

I don't think so....if they got called out for it they would be in the CFL pretty quick. I'm not saying it's never happened but I doubt it would happen in this situation.

That would not happen IMO - that's breaking the code.

If it did I'm sure the vets would take care of him in practice.

Can you stop winging like a child who spilt their milk and just get on with what you want to say.

As other posters have mentioned a player who does something detrimental to the side would be sanctioned pretty quickly in the locker room and by the coaches.

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

I wouldn't trust Mankins as far as Wilfork could toss him. He could easily disguise poor play and not draw attention to him in the process. Sit his arse down and play the guys who want to be on the team instead.

Beyond which, at his position he can't just drop an easy pass, he has to get his quarterback clobbered. That's a different moral sphere than "dogging it."

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

There is a fine line between "purposefully hurting the team" and "not giving 100%." Moss has done the later in pretty much every game he has played in other than '98 and '07. I expect that Mankins won't give 100%. Purposely mess up, I don't expect to happen.

Terry Glenn in a way...

Belichick deactivated him for the rest of the season because of serial off-the-field problems - including an interview on WBZ-TV in which Glenn hinted he was faking injuries because of Patriots discipline ("I'm bothered by a hamstring right now and I'm not getting paid. You do the math," he told a stunned Steve Burton)

when the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVI, Glenn did not receive a championship ring... a bit unusual for a guy who actually played 4 games that season... so you know the players felt strongly about his behavior as well.

I can't think of any instances of something like that actually taking place on the field - plus it would be very tough to know for sure if a guy messed up deliberately or not. But there certainly have been times when guys deliberately did things off the field to hurt the team. T.O. and his final days in Philly comes to mind.

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

Mankins can only hurt his own value with sabotage. "That could be our quarterback in a heap". That kind of thing wouldn't escape the eyes of the league.

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

Never happened that I know of. I'd be shocked if anybody ever did have the cajones to do this... they'd be lucky to make it out the building alive

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

I'll cut his balls off if he does.

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

I love Randy and don't think his aim was to hurt the Vikings or lose the game but I definitely think he had little interest in winning (especially after the Vikes basically ignored his advice). I just don't think he cared at that point, he probably wanted to be in a Pats uniform as he played against them.

Re: Purposely hurting the team.

He's playing for a new contract so no way.

If you are mad at management, do you tip over your co-workers desk and hurt him?

The players understand the business side of the "game". I don't think there's a player in the NFL that would try to get back at management with something on the field, especially not allowing a teammate to get hit.

No way, if nothing else because it could result in a serious injury to Brady and Brady has always had a good relationship with his OL.

Does anyone remember Favre letting Strahan sack him so Strahan could get a record? Favre is a bum.

lolz if he does he will get smashed on by every player in the locker room

He'll be playing for a contract. Every team that could potentially sign him will be watching every play on the tapes. If he dogs it it'll cost him money.
