PUP Eligibility Day

I would think Chad Jackson goes on IR since the WR corps is so deep that there's not much purpose to bringing him back this year.

I don't know about this. If Watson's injury has him out any length of time, I'd imagine the Pats could turn to 4-wideout sets to attack teams. Jackson could really be a threat with his speed. While he hasn't had the reps to grasp the offense and contribute full time, it's just one more guy who can get down field really quickly, and he can still be a playmaker.

That assumes he's bright enough to understand the playbook and the various situational and coverage options which are myriad. Color me very skeptical.

him and his agent claim hes been on the playbook a lot so thats great if true. understand the formation, plays, audibles

talent is not an issue. how he runs after the knee is a question but his main thing is playbook and we'll see about that

Has his intelligence been in question? I haven't heard anything about that.

Although I hear Casale has some story on him...

It's not even assuming that, though. Even if they bring him in a few times a game to go deep, run a fly route and just take advantage of Moss and or Stallworth drawing double coverage, he might be worth it for those few times a game.

Granted, I think Jackson's potential is a lot more than that, but realistically, and I've been a homer for this guy for a while, I don't see how he could be on the field for any considerable amount of snaps given the talent at the wide receiving corp. But I do think he can be a specialist playmaker who can take advantage of the fact that other playmakers on this team are earning the attention of the D and contribute that way. Can't you see him catching a few bombs in this offense?

Run a deep fly. Sorta like...Tony Simmons & Bethel Johnson. How'd that work out for them?

The difference is Bethel Johnson was the deep threat on the team at the time. This team has Moss and Stallworth, CJ can reap the benefits of the respect they've earned (a few times a game).

Even if he isn't bright (and I have no idea if he is or not), Edgerrin James, Vince Young and Daunte Culpepper would get smoked by Paris Hilton on Jeopardy! and they've done just fine learning playbooks.

Sitting down and opening up and learning the playbook isn't the same as going out in practice or games and excuting the plays. He hasn't even practiced in, what, over a year? It's not like he's a vet who's played in the system for a few years and coming back. If there's a WR injury then maybe, but even then how much use will he be? It's not like last year when the Patriots may have had about the worse WR group around.

Exactly Steve. Last year clearly BB was understandably desperate for anyone who could do anything, especially stretch the field and provide a threat. Interestingly, most of CJ's receptions were right on the flat, possibly indicating that he couldn't run routes or didn't know the playbook. It mystifies me why so many fans here are obsessed with an unproven rook who has never been through a single training camp over a starting lineup of Moss, Stallworth and Welker, never mind Gaffney and Washington.

SEYMOUR in and Santonio Thomas out is a no brainer; the only question is when.

We need to make a choice between EDDIE JACKSON and Baker (or perhaps Mitchell, depending on injury). I'd activate JACKSON. He's a ST demon sign through next year.

I don't see TROY BROWN on this roster, although in six weeks, injuries may have cleared a spot.

CHAD JACKSON would be put on the IR if we could. We might very well put him there at the last minute and then wait for the the appeal to the league, buying a couple of more weeks. In any case, the team would not be helped with him on the squad instead of Gaffney. Washington is valuable on Special Teams, so I don't see him going anywhere.

========================================================

Imagine being one of the other teams, as the patriots consider adding strength to this 6-0 team.

I would note that ECKEL will likely stay, unless he's replaced by another running back. Given our injuries, I expect to have five running backs on the squad for the rest of the year. We wouldn't have an issue, if we had started with five. Leonard would look awefully good in a patriot uni right now, or one of the many free agents that were available to the patriots. We really don't know which were availble, but there were some.

can I just be honest with you? What's with you and your total dislike of Jackson? It almost seems like you don't want him to succeed.

Anways, it's not just Chad and his agent. It's a known fact he stayed in NE all offseason working out and studying his playbook in an attempt to get back on the field. Josh has even talked about his studying the playbook with Welker, and Stallworth constantly.
