Pundit mock drafts 2027 [with FAILs]

Mike Renner going out on a limb:

Jamari Johnson an outstanding choice for the Pats at 22, though I would go defense.

Among his other picks:

11. Ashton Hampton
15. Will Heldt
16. Trevor Lauck
18. Lance Heard
21. Justin Scott
23. Sahir West
24. Sammy Brown
25. Greg Johnson
27. Jordan Ross
28. Niki Prongos
31. Luke Reynolds

Only 2 QBs (Manning and Moore).

No Chris Cole, KVA Trey'Dez Green Ellis Robinson, KJ Bolden or Tae Johnson.

Definitely taking a stand for guys he likes. Reynolds as TE2 gets my notice.
He's brave for sure.

Another brave mock, this one from Sam Teets:

He has the Pats taking IOL Greg Johnson at 22. Fine player, but not with Justin Scott and Chris Cole still available.

Another mock with only 2 1st round QBs, going 1-2.

Of note:

10. Nick Marsh
11. Melvin Siani
12. Colin Simmons
14. Zac Lutmer
17. OJ Frederique
23. Ryan Wingo
24. Bryant Wesco
25. Anto Saka
26. Trevor Lauck
27. Andrew Rappleyea
28. Taylor Wein
30. A'Mauri Washington
31. KJ Bolden
32. Justin Scott

No 1st round LBs. No Trey'Dez Green.

I applaud these guys for the courage of their convictions and pushing some of their favorites, but these are too bold for me, this early.

I prefer mocks like this because you know they're not just copy/pasting the consensus big board.

Another thing I find curious is no Jordan Ross in Teet's mock. Teets had Ross at #13 on his June 30 top 200 big board. If I believe someone is the 13th best overall prospect in the draft, he's going somewhere in the 1st round.

I like the willingness to stand up for prospects, but there is a lot of inconsistency.

Teets had Justin Scott at #9 on his top 200 board, but falling to 32. Weird.

To some extent, ai feel like these guys are just throwing some darts.

Yeah, he has Ross about 10 spots down his Honourable Mentions - Defense.

Maybe his Round 1 are guys he liked from last year's film work. It's early for him. IDK.

I agree with Manx, I like mocks which don't just follow the consensus board, or go with the herd mentality. And I think it's fine to take your shots on guys you believe will make the leap. I'd like to see some evidence - either traits or performance - to back it up.

Things I think about this draft right now, barring injuries or major personal red flags:

1. I think Jeremiah Smith and Leonard Moore are the best pure prospects in the draft.

2. I think 5-6 QBs will go round 1.

Manning and Moore are top 10 locks. Teams are desperate for QBs, and there are a lot of talented ones out there. Carr, Mensah, Sayin, Mestermaker, Lindsay, Sellers, Chambliss, and others. Hard to predict which, but some will rise, and teams will bet on them. It may not quite reach 2024 (6 in 1st 12), but there will be a QB feeding frenzy.

3. I think the top 4 IDLs, top 2 EDGE, and top 2 OTs are too good to drop far.

Stone, Scott, Echoles, Washington. Stewart, Simmons. Goosby, Seaton. These are top caliber prospects at premium positions. They would go top 20 in just about any draft.

4. I think WRs Cam Coleman and Charlie Becker are 1st round locks, probably top 20. I would take either over Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson or Tetairoa McMillan. Teams will take coveted playmaker high.

5. Beyond that, I think everything is up for grabs.

6. EDGE and OT are premium positions, and guys will emerge. I expect another 6 to go 1st round, at least. I have my horses, but it's a crowded field.

7. The rest of WR/TE is up for grabs.

8. IOL, RB, S and LB have 1st round caliber talent, but may get squeezed.

9. CB seems to have been devalued in recent years, but this group is the strongest in years.

In general, I think we've been good evaluators of talent in the past, and often ahead of the curve.

It will be fun to see how things shake out.

8 offensive linemen, 6 of whom are OT prospects. It happens every single year.

5 QBs minimum. We can easily name the likely teams right now - Green Slime, LOLphins, Brownstains, Cardinals, maybe Vikings or Dolts or even Bucs or Dallass

You couldn't come up with anything for the Cardinals and Vikings? Disappointing.

No reason for me to hate on those two franchises, they’ve never been jammed down the throats of us NFL fans, for obvious reasons. I pulled for the Cardinals against the Yinzers and my only real interest in the Vikings is to see Barfalo get to 0-5 in the Super Bowl so the whole world can point and laugh at them.
