As a Polish-American, I will now proceed to give y'all a pronunciation lesson.

Steve's family, as have many Polish-Americans, have probably "anglicized" how they pronounce his name but in Polish it would come out as Gust-cuff-ski, or Goosed-cove-ski.

Gust as in a wind "gust". Or perhaps "Goosed" as in a pinch in the arse.
Cuff or Cove as in "cuff" of a sleeve or the seacoast "cove".
Ski as in snow "ski".

And of course Steve is pronounced as ... "Casper"

(the friendly Ghost).

Whenever I see him these days, I pronounce his name either :

or

"Yesanothertouchback"

He did keep the Bengals backed up for most of the day with those touchbacks and once he gets on top of his game he will be a weapon we as fans have just been spoiled with what we had previously Mr. Automatic.

Yeah, we've discussed this a while back... afterwards I called my dear old Grandmother, born and raised in Poland. I spelled the name to her and asked her how she would pronounce it. She replied gus-KOFF-ski (koff, as in cough).

I would buy that pronunciation too.

cuff and cove and cough are all attempt to say english words that approximate the Polish pronunciation for k o w. The o has a u or ou sound or perhaps the the sound of the word "of" and the w is pronounced like an engllish "v".

As for the "silent" T of GosT, it isn't really silent but is not at all accented. All in all "goosed" is pretty close since the "t" is not a hard "t" at all; more like the relatively silent "d" in goosed. The "o" in Gost is definitely more like an english "U" sound as in gust or the double "oo" of goosed.

Any way you pronounce it it still sounds like "Casper"!
