To minimize travel on the final week and because I believe you never play pre-season vs. division foes.

I thought it was also because Belichick still has friends in the NYG offices from his time there. But I'm sure the travel factor has a lot to do with it.

On a related note, I heard that the league stepped in and took more control over preseason scheduling a few years ago because the Raiders and Chargers snuck in a game against each other. (The Raiders also played the Cowpokes twice that preseason - another no-no.)

I'm with you - watching the Patriots and Giants just reminds me of something really, really bad that I'm prefer not to be reminded of.

They don't like traveling far for preseason games. That's why you see them pretty much playing the same teams year-in/year-out.
