I'll add a bit of a twist, just to change things up:

QB: Brady
RB: Ridley
WR: Welker, Lloyd
TE: Gronkowski, Hernandez
OL: Solder, Connolly, Koppen, Waters, Vollmer

DL: Wilfork, Love, Deaderick
LB: Ninkovich, Mayo, Spikes, Hightower
CB: McCourty, Dowling
S: Wilson, Chung

Question: Is it something you're seeing with Wilson in practice that's making you pencil him in as an opening day starter? Or is it just a reflection of your opinion on the other safeties?

picking a "starting defense" for the Pats in this era is an exercise in futility . Its going to be difficult classifying the player's positions let alone the myriad of bodies that will be used to fill them. No fewer than 15 players (and maybe more) will fill various roles on a regular basis

For example I strongly thing we will have 5 DBs on the field for more than 60% of the snaps this season. While there will usually be 7 men within 3 yds of the LOS most of the time, what positions will make up this group will be hard to define. At any one time there can be 2-4 Dlinemen 3-5 LBs or 4-6 DBs is some amalgam of various configurations week to week.

Don't ask me now who the starters will be. It would be better to come back to this at the end of year and just take the 11 guys who got the most defensive snaps and call THEM the "starters", and I doubt very much there will be more than 5 guys who get more than 80% of the regular defensive snaps.

That's why I didn't bother trying to predict the subpackages. It would have given me a migraine.

Why does everyone (almost) think Arrington isn't starting ? He was our best CB last year in is supposely playing well in camp.

Because he's not particularly good.

He's decent and he was far better than McCourty last year. I like what I've seen from Dowling but I like to see he play at least a couple games before I'd bench Arrington (or McCourty).

Arrington got "benched" (not really, but he lost his spot in the top 2 CBs) last year before Dowling ever played a regular season snap.

No, he's not. But at this point, I know more about him than I do Dowling or Dennard.

True. But I think the indication is pretty clear that, if healthy, Dowling starts over Arrington.

Any indication of who's been getting the most first-team reps at RDE?

I would expect that to be Deaderick, unless they're in obvious passing situations.

Deaderick? I thought he was exclusively a LDE or interior guy.
