I’m taking the dynasty v1 in every game.

What rules they playin under
I was just thinking the same thing. Not sure.

Part of me wants to alternate it. Old rules on grass and new rules on turf.

In New Orleans try to ref them as they would in a well-officiated Super Bowl game. Allow for tight coverage but not too agressive.

Me too. I think the 2004 team was the best of the lot, followed closely by the 2014 team. I think that Seattle team was the best one they beat.

What an embarrassment of riches we have to even talk about this.

you could even look at :

ST: Izzo vs Slate
PR: Troy vs Jules.
OC: Charlie vs McD
DC: RAC vs Patricia (gimme Flores over Patricia)

I'm putting together the list and I really have no idea who would win.

Here is what I do know.
  • Buck is a better QB than Kid.
  • Dynasty 1 has a better run game which means they can control the clock a little better.
  • Dynasty 2 has a better passing game. Even though Ty and Asante are out there I don't see them stopping JE, DA, Cooks and Josh AND Gronk in a 5 wide set.
  • Dynasty 1 has a better pass rush and run D. That offsets the advantage of Kid v Buck
  • Dynasty 2 has a better secondary
  • Dynasty 2 has a better o-line, pass and run block
  • Gronk v Rodney, Roman or Bru is EPIC.
  • Willie/Vrabes v Gronk on the line in the run game= Godzilla v King Kong
  • I think Bill is a better coach now. More experiences to draw from.
  • AV over Gost.
  • Allen over Walter

These matchups would be cool to see. One interesting aspect:

2004 Deion Branch vs. 2014 Darrelle Revis
2001 Troy Brown vs. 2018 Stephon Gilmore
2004 David Givens vs. 2016 Malcolm Butler

An above average modern WR trio vs. two 1st team all pros & a 2nd team all pro. They would have a tough time.

IMO, Seymour in 2018 would be a game wrecking DT like Hicks/Cox. He’d be Dynasty 1’s best player vs. Dynasty 2’s offense.

Games 1 & 3: Dynasty 1
Games 2, 4 & 5: Dynasty 2

I was 8 when the 03 season started and was 9 when the 04 championship was sealed up. Not that these teams weren’t tough, but those teams just had something. Something that my 8 and 9 year old self just made me feel they were invincible in the playoffs. I guess that’s what a 10-0 playoff run can do. I’d bet them up against anybody. The 80s 49er teams... 90s Dallas. I know they weren’t flashy, but I don’t care. They knew how to win I think more than any other team in the history of professional sports

Old rules: v1
Current rules: v2 (assumes we have Gronk in GOAT mode)

Crazy to think that neither Moss or Welker is an option on this list.

Thinking the same thing. That, and that the 2007 team may rule them all*.

* Edit: by rule them all, I mean beat both other all-star teams head to head in the hypothetical game we're discussing.

Unfortunately, I realized that no matter how many SB the Pats win, that 2007 team will always leave a sore spot for me along with the fact that the Giants always have the claim to owning us in the SB.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I would take Dynasty 2. And yes, I was very much alive and a Patriots fan during Dynasty 1. Dynasty 1 was amazing, but their invincibility perception is built much on the 2004 team, which is probably the best overall championship team. However, give them equal rules for defensive backs, and I believe that Dynasty 2 team is superior with their all-stars.

In terms of this theoretical matchup, good luck beating a secondary led by Revis and Gilmore, with Troy Brown, Deion Branch, David Givens and Daniel Graham. That's the area where, in my opinion, this game loses its balance. Everywhere else is just an amazing collection of all-pro players, but not D1's skill players. Talent-wise, that probably isn't even an above average all-star team compared to the 31 other teams of their era.

The '01 Patriots would win it all. That team was just magical....all three phases....

The current one because of recency bias but also because Brady is better and the offense has shown they can handle a premier D line.

Exactly why I'll take D2 in this game. and then Daniel Graham and Ben Watson as the tight ends? This is the only huge mismatch, but it's a big deal.

I'm not so sure that the team in the middle - from 2005-2013 - wouldn't beat both these squads.

QB - Brady (PRIME)
RB - Maroney
HB - Faulk
WR - Moss
WR - Welker
WR - Edelman (young)
WR - Branch
TE - Gronk
TE - Hernandez (sorry, he gets a spot)
LT - Light
LG - Mankins
C - Koppen
RG - Neal
RT - Vollmer or Solder (who started out at RT)

DE - Warren
NT - Wilfork (PRIME)
DE - Seymour
LB - Bruschi
LB - Vrabel
LB - Thomas (PRIME)
LB - Mayo
CB - Samuel
S - Harrison
S - McCourty
CB - Talib

K - Gostkowski
P - Allen
