so at this point I do not know my personal feelings about the QB situation and whom to keep, but i can tell you that BB know exactly what he has in mallet. If you are not sure about a guy, you test him, and he barely played in this past game. I believe that means that mallet wil be the #2 going into the season. He does not need to be evaluated.
Just because you know what you have doesn't mean you want it.

I'm not ready to cut Mallet yet, but it is no longer inconceivable to me.

TE Jones is needed for the 4th preseason game.

I wold also expect Cave and Barker to play the last half.

Jones played 3 snaps last night. I also think they will give Hooman some reps since he has not played all preseason.

fair enough

Post deleted for just saying what was already said after failing to read through.

My cuts, I hope:

Gaffney to IR
Chris Martin
Derrick Johnson
Van HoosHe
Travis Hawkins
Shamiel Gary
Tuipulotu
Manumaleuna
Bequette
Deontae Skinner
[Vellano (very unlikely, but I'd rather have Ben Bass & Worthy then Joey & his already-hit ceiling)]

Edit: I forgot about Deontae Skinner originally; so Vellano survives for another few days.

Steve Maneri is available for the 4th preseason game. Then there is "#67 is reporting eligible for the play".

Or you know what you have in Mallet, but want to see more out of your rookie second round pick in order to make a tough decision. Mallet isn't going to suddenly become accurate over the next few weeks, and he isn't going to learn to drop a ball in rather than try to throw it through the receivers chest, distance be damned.

I think the QB2 conundrum has far more to do with JAG (hate the nickname btw), than anything Mallet does well/poorly next week.

I thought Worthy played respectfully at the lde (casual viewing once he got snaps) for someone who seems to be a problem child. Looked like he gave up leverage occasionally on run defense and got washed out a bit, but also showed ability to stand stout, and more importantly penetrate occasionally.

Who is 53? Want to say it was the first defensive snap of the third, flew into the backfield like a bat out of Hell! Showed up on some other plays relatively well too...

Ja'Gared Davis a Linebacker who has been lurking for a year or two on the PS. Flashes good things IMO. Another year on the PS and I think he'll challenge for a backup role on the 53 in 2015.

My current 53:

QB (3): Brady, Mallett, Garoppolo
RB (6): Vereen, Ridley, Develin, White, Bolden
WR (6): Edelman, Amendola, Thompkins, LaFell, Dobson, Slater
TE (2): Gronkowski, Hoomanawanui
OL (9): Solder, Mankins, Connolly, Cannon, Vollmer, Wendell, Kline, Fleming, Stork
DL (6): Wilfork, Kelly, Easley, Siliga, Chr. Jones, Vellano
OLB (5): Cha. Jones, Ninkovich, Buchanan, Fleming, Moore
ILB (4): Mayo, Collins, Hightower, J. Davis
CB (5): Revis, Dennard, Arrington, Ryan, Butler
S (4): McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Wilson, K. Davis
ST (3): Gostkowski, Allen, Aiken
PUP/NFI/Susp: Browner, Tyms, Martin

-Boyce is not getting a spot.
-They'll probably pick up another TE at cutdowns.
-One or both of Siliga and Chris Jones could end up on IR, making a spot for someone like Worthy, Bass, or a TE waiver pickup.
-I moved to a 3-4 notation because it seems pretty clear now that they're going with that.
-Not the best OLB depth, unfortunately. Buchanan and Moore aren't very complete and Fleming is more of a pure LB than a DE/LB like Jones and Ninkovich.
-James Anderson has been a huge disappointment, and I have him getting cut now and being replaced by Ja'Gared Davis.
-I think Kanorris Davis is battling Ebner for one spot, which I'll give to Davis for now on a gut feeling.
-Wilson or Chung could be cut, especially if the Arrington/Ryan safety experiments continue.

My prediction for the first 12 cuts:
1. Gaffney to IR
2. WR Johnson
3. WR Van Hooser
4. OL Martin
5. LB Skinner
6. DL Manumaleuna
7. LB Smith
8. LB Bequette
9. CB Swanson
10. S Gary
11. CB Hawkins
12. OL Barker
