i don't know what slater's responsibility during the KOs is, but he often signals to the returner to stay in the endzone. i always assumed that it was his job to make that decision since he has more time to survey the field and identify where the gunners are, whereas the returner is concentrating on catching the ball cleanly.
You might be right .. the problem is that in a situation like this when the ball lands just a couple of meters from the goal line and the returner better keep his eyes on the ball .. its almost impossible to stop him on time.
Slater actually did make a signal on time .. just as Cyrus was catching the ball .. but there was no way CJ could see that in time because his second step was already on the field .. and if you keep your eye on the ball like you're supposed to and then immediately fully engage in the return there's no way you can process and apply an outside command in such a small window.
So I guess it was unfortunate situation .. that should be something they can avoid in the future and Im sure they were on it already.
