Steelers D is very good. Pats usually play well against that team however.
Saints just lost their starting QB so
Commanders D line is one of the best in the league but they will be on the road
Raiders look lost
Giants? Who knows what that team is
Colts are feisty as hell. That won't be an easy game either

I am watching the price go down for the Donks/Pats Christmas Eve game tickets. Hoping for more bad losses before Wilson is replaced. More than likely the Pats will see old friend Jared at QB for that game.

Adrian Phillips is on a 3 year 12.75 million extension. He has a $4.5 million dollar cap hit. That's 34th in the NFL in APY. He's getting paid starter money and plays less than 25% of the snaps.

Jalen Mills is making 2.5 million and plays less than 25% of the snaps.

The best available FA WR was Jakobi Meyers. He received the most guaranteed money and has 16 receptions 166 yards 2 TDs in 2 games so far. Most teams would re-sign a 26 year old WR2 instead of throwing money to a zone beater slot WR.

They guaranteed $8.7 million to Reiff, Anderson & McDermott. None of them can play. Orlando Brown Jr. was available & received 31 million guaranteed. A franchise LT was available and they didn't want to pay him.

Nobody is arguing not drafting Gonzalez & White. I was pumped when they drafted both & was surprised White made it to round 2. Did they need another box safety at pick 76 though? Their resource management has been questionable on the offensive side of the ball IMO.
That's short money for Phillips and Mills in this day and age. That's not much. And it doesn't change the fact they signed low contracts and their prior teams didn't make much of an effort to keep them.

How does this translate into "would start for other teams"? It doesn't. People are exaggerating the investment here. These are depth pieces.

Meyers is a slot WR as well, but when it comes to production, JuJu had the #s over him--I don't really care to have this argument anyway since we are not talking about difference makers. MY POINT: they were the best available. This board was ROUNDLY behind the idea of improving with a guy who was much better regarded at the position. It's hypocritical to now say there was no attempt to use resources at the position in FA.

As for Orlando Brown, I posted here how he's performing for his new team (very badly) and that the fans are calling it a huge bust at big money. Not as bad as McGlinchey, but some of these guys are tying up $87m for the next several years and they suck.

There are actually people arguing Zay Flowers over Gonzalez. I've discussed this 2x on this board with 2 different people.

As for Mapu, I have no idea how he'll turn out, but I would not say for certain that the WRs taken after Mapu are going to be better than Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte. In other words, this isn't an argument for today.

And obviously they went 3 OL in a row right after Mapu so we're not talking about misuse of resources here. The next 5 players after Mapu were all OL and WR--so, say we don't take Mapu; it's likely we end up with most of the same 5 OL and WRs anyway.

The main criticism I see is that we didn't take Pickens and instead we took Thornton. That's fair. But I don't see this as a misallocation of resources.

We're going to the well AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN on WRs, TEs and OLs. We've really expended a lot of money (FA) and draft picks.

The problem is that you have to hit on them in the draft or you're not getting one (with the exception of freakin' Tyreek Hill, who would've been a great trade if he wanted to come here, but on the other hand I'm not making the Jaylen Waddle trade if I'm the Patriots [not that they were even in such a position]).

They should have been drafting and developing WR's the last 4 yearsvso it doesn't have to come down to one draft when the position is in dire need of a talent infusion.

Who should that have picked in this past draft? I don't know. I don't follow the college game or draft.
I do follow it.

This is why I'm making this argument.

Right now, no one on this board can say that Tre Tucker or whoever (the guys taken at the Mapu pick) are going to be better than Demario Douglas or Kayshon Bouttee. Most of the WRs who end up getting taken there (end of 4th round to 6th) are busts. So the only real conversation is not who they should've taken in the 3rd through 6th round, but who they should've taken in the 1st or 2nd. Keion White had top 20 grade from the Patriots--I don't think I'm passing him up for WRs Jayden Reed, Jaylin Hyatt or Marvin Mims.

I don't have an issue with any of these grades.
I think she's grading on a curve a bit, factoring in improvement rather than grading vis-a-vis some fixed standard. I've probably given tens of thousands of grades in my day: it happens. Some kid who had previously written no paper above a C gets inspired (or more often simply busy) and writes a B paper. It can make sense to plump the grade up to a B+ or even an A-. Send a message; offer a little celebration. That's what's happening here, methinks. But then, grades are a form of communication as much as they are an expression of objective evaluation (if such be possible anyway), maybe more so. By my calculation, Karen's average grade is 86.4%. To me that seems a tad high for a team which eeked out a win against the Wilson-led Jets. I calculated my "average of averages" each year I taught. I pretty consistently hit right on 83%. As department head, I also calculated the averages for the other teachers in the department. The toughest averaged around 81, the much beloved softies (also excellent teachers) drifted up around - well - Karen's average. That was at a very competitive school. So 86+ seems a little high to me. If they play at the same level and get clobbered by the Cowboys, are we still gonna give 'em a B+ for that stuff? I doubt it. So it goes.

Both Juju and Douglas are not reading what Mac is reading. Juju is in Ocho territory. I'm ready to cut him loose. Brady would have sent Juju to another dimension like Billy Mumy in the Twilight Zone.
Ocho was totally washed by the time he was here. JuJu is hurt but not washed. So there is absolutely time for him to bounce back and get on the same page as Mac.

If we are sitting here after the New Orleans game and there has been no progress some decisions might need to be made about putting him on the bench for the time being. But we don’t have much luxury to do so. JuJu should be the #1 WR, ya can’t give up yet.

The score was close, but make no mistake - the Pats completely dominated that game yesterday.

Total Yards: NE 358, NY 171
First Downs: NE 17, NY 12
TOP: NE 31:52, NY 28:08

The no call on what should have been DPI on the Jets on that deep pass down the left sideline to Douglas cost NE 3, maybe 7 points. That was an egregious error by the refs. Then they gave NY a gift DPI on their only TD drive when Wilson threw an uncatchable pass and the receiver completely flopped in the back of the end zone AFTER he was the one grabbing Bryant.

The score was close. The game wasn't.
What a lovely thought. Generally speaking when you barely eek out a win over one of the worst teams in the league, led by almost certainly the worst qb in the league, nearly losing it in the game's fading moments, the joy is not quite so effervescent.

I hated the fact they needed 3rd and 4 or whatever it was and they were slinging it thirty yards downfield.

Get the damned first down.
Yeah that might work with Zack Wilson on the other side but won't work with a competent QB.

We are stuck with him until someone else emerges. Can't wait for BoneyT and Boutte to get back on the field and stay healthy for a stretch.

OC BOB is baffling me how can Juju get more snapsthan Bourne and Douglas?? Keep it up and BOB you won't sniff another HC gig if this continues book it!

Uhhhh, thanks. Always nice to hear from a player's Mom.
Did I say he was playing like our #1 receiver? He was swapped for our best receiver, he was paid to be our best receiver.

The expectation is for him to be the best receiver on the team. Take your comment and shove it up your arse.

Shrug. You only get so many opportunities at joy in this life.

Just saw the replay of the holding call on Strange. Not even close to a hold. Absurd that this is the 3rd week in a row that we get a bogus holding call on the OL.

I would urge people not to throw the OL under the bus for key holding calls until you see the actual holds, because they are very lame calls with hardly any holding at all.

IF T Thornton is not starting when he gets back Bust city here we come. Felt sick seeing certain stat lines yesterday.
My Binky Tank Dell arrived 5 catches for145 I wanted him for us.
Also Jayden Reed 3 for 63 been solid for Green bay as a Rookie.

I'm just taking it one week at a time.
For now, they've been in every game until the end, competitive against two very good teams, PHL and MIA (look at the points the 'fins put up yesterday!) and good enough to beat a solid D with a damaged O in New Jersey.
I still have the Pats at the eight wins I picked before the season started...always thought they had to steal a win in the first three games and they did just that. Now, they need to go .500 the rest of the way. Not sure how that plays out though.

Mac has shown he's solid, but still misses too many throws. I'm willing to wait to see how he develops after losing last season to coaching insanity. The Pats will have a big decision to make at the end of the season: bet on the guy for another three years or start looking elsewhere. I think the answer will be clear sometime after Thanksgiving. Zeke's a big help, but he still isn't surrounded by a lot of weapons. Protection was great yesterday.

With a little luck and weekly improvement, Mac and the team could outperform expectations. Or they could suck.

PS: too bad Dallas was surprised in Arizona yesterday. They'll come out furious on Sunday, otherwise they might have coasted for the week. A big test for our respectable D.
