Pop Douglas and the AVP Offense

I've already made it known I don't care for Alex Van Pelt, but no top offensive minds were coming to NE. Offensively, I think it's going to be really rough unless Maye becomes star player. I don't think the OL is agile enough to zone block. This was evident in 2022. I don't think Rham is a good fit for this offense as well which requires quick cuts/burst and decision making. There's only a few big lumbering backs like him have done a decent job running in a zone blocking scheme.
You are 100% correct. Everything you said is on point.

Let's hope that Maye is the real deal. Otherwise the 2024 FA signings and the 2024 draft were a disaster. PatsFans wants to talk about the "SVP system" and "zone blocking". They seem to think that Wallace and Okorafor are going to magically switch from RT to LT (not).

Why can't we be concerned with winning?

Yep. I'm not a fan of the bait and switch Mayo did this offseason saying they were going to spend money, yet nobody thought it was going to turn into overpaying their own. Did Bob say something behind the scenes between the time Mayo made that statement and free agency? They spent a lot of money just to bring their roster back to baseline. I wouldn't have had an issue with signing Ridley if the guarantees weren't so high. I'm not a fan of really any of the signings and they just paid Rham for absolutely no reason. These were the type of signings other teams did and this board would laugh at.

I've always advocated to build through the draft first, but this franchise has a poor history of drafting premium talent. With that said, if Bob wants his team to compete again, he's going to have to accept he will have to pay a high price for elite players.

We will see.. AVP coached up 5 different QBs last season, and thus that team still made it to the post season.. our team couldn't coach up a pop Warner QB last season. AVP is tied to drake.. as Drake develops ,and does well so will AVP.. I have an open mind. You don't know if you will like the car until you drive it.

Reality is there wasn't anyone to spend on better than thier own guys... ok the Ridley situation.. but he's a 2 really.. I don't think RK will mind spending at all.. they have to for a number if reasons. What were they last in cash spending or something like it?

It's not that there weren't better options...the better options didn't want to come here. That is what happens when you suck.

Oh yes your right. But you also have to take into account the FA market was a dud this year... most GMs even said that as Most if the good players were under contract. We took the right approach to self Invest... this would have likely never happened in past practices.

Maybe they valued their own Guys more than BB did you know he would try to replace each with a Special Teamer. I am not going to judge before I see them Play. Let's be honest their success is dependent on the development of Maye if he's a hit we're on the right track.

Tyreek Hill is a shrimp, he looked really good in Kansas City's version of the West Coast offense, now he plays in Miami's version of the same system with another shrimp in Jaylen Waddle. This is a big nothing burger.

It will be important for Van Pelt and this offense to control the middle of the field, especially with questionable tackle play.

Aside from V Lowe who's absolutely dog crap I have faith in the other Offensive Lineman holding the fort. We only need a Guy to play decent at LT one of the Chucka - Anderson or Wallace I think they will be alright from LG to RT and this is without Dr Strange.

I think AVP runs an Offense that belongs in this century unlike the last two we just witnessed.

The important thing will be Brissett and Maye providing better QB play than Mac... which shouldn't be difficult.

Exact Correct. We know bill was a master of cap manipulation... it worked as long as TB12 was playing. STs isn't so special anymore... teams are now thinking of putting thier SS out there to tackle on kick off and punt returns... give me Wolf approach take the talent and let him develop with big cannon arm drake.

Wozzy: Biscuit sucks he's not that much of an upgrade over Mac another weak armed QB. I am watching Drake Maye all Preseason his development will tell us if we're picking in the Top 5 again. That will surely happen if Biscuit is the Starter for the long haul something I'm not looking forward to.

I suspect if BB wasn't let go, this team would look exactly the same as it does now... he would have taken Maye also, he called QB the Pat's biggest need in his draft coverage on Mcafee... not sure I'd call it the Wolf approach. It was the smart approach...

Brissett is much better than Mac for one simple reason... he doesn't lead the league in turnovers when he starts.

You're dismissing the importance of turnovers... and leadership, Brissett is a leader, Mac is a whiner.

With a Losing Record don't let that fact escape you. IF you put lipstick on a pig it's still a pig.

Aaron Rodgers says thank you Elliot for scouting me!!

Win/loss is a team stat.

Drew Brees led the NFL in passing three years in a row, his Saints offense was top five, his defense was ranked dead last.

Brees went 7-9 three years in a row. It's a team game.

Brissett's stats as a starter aren't eye popping, but he's efficient... he doesn't turn the ball over.

After points, turnovers are the most important stat in football, because they most correlate to points.

If Jameis Winston could stop turning the ball over he'd be Warren Moon, if Mac could stop turning the ball over he'd be Kirk Cousins... neither can stop turning the ball over, so now they're pinned to the bench.
