Anyone else seeing articles that speculate that DD isn't a great fit for AVP's offense?

Apparently AVP uses a lot of 2 wide receiver sets without as much utilization of the slot.

Sounds silly to me.

BB did say Pop can play on the outside too so there.

AVP have Coached Teams with Very Good Outside WR's so the Slot would have been an afterthought on those Teams.

I will try to talk about this later and hopefully shed some light of our situation and what's happening in the league.

A good offensive coordinator adapts his scheme to fit the personnel so if AVP cant find a way to use their best separator and most explosive weapon, that’s on him.

My guess is he will.
My guess is that they played more 2 outside WR/2 TE sets because their personnel called for it. Here it may make more sense to go 3 WR/1 TE.

At the same time, if Douglas is their best WR then he can't just be a slot-only player and will need to able to handle being on the field even in 2 WR sets.

We'll see what happens.

Haven't seen anything on it.. I know that AVPs offense allows for the slot guy to get alot of catches.. in Cleveland he used multiple WRs at once, and all those guys saw the ball.

The whole offense can be argued to not be a good fit for AVP’s offense. This season has the opportunity to be spectacularly bad and on the flip side, surprisingly good. Is Hooper good depth at TE or is he a washed up has been? Neither TE is known to be a blocking specialist. Lack of established tackles. An over abundance of WR’s but no blue chip outside guy. Hell, you might see the season begin with 2 rookies starting for all we know. Interior line looks solid, but it definitely isnt a very agile group. The point Im trying to make is that AVP & Co. are gonna have to make adjustments all over the place to give them the best chance to win. One of those adjustments is figuring out how to get the ball into the hands of your playmakers and the most explosive one youve got is Pop. He’ll figure out a way to get him the ball or he’ll find himself out of a job.

Good points. AVP says he is Tayloring the offense to the players strengths and not trying to fit square pegs into round holes. I'd expect a formidable running game.. that will protect the O line and allow those guys to push the LOS. Wide zone schemes that help the QBs and the WRs.

So we will all see how things are coming along starting end of the month.

Post less holy.

I’ve been hearing that Mom and Pop looks really good catching passes in shorts so far.

Whatever the offense is, I’m glad they are getting away from the stale Ernhardt-Perkins.

So happy they got away from running the slow ,gravy, NAVY offense. LOL.. they all looks like ALL PROs.. let's see when the pads come on.. I love that Mayo put camp times at 11am..

The EP offense won a few SBs and Brady took it with him to Tampa and won another SB in Tampa. No one in Tampa thought it was stale. While do you think it is stale?

In Tampa it was new to them. The offense has only really worked with Tom. Even during the late Brady years, I felt the offense was just getting boring to watch since I've seen it since the Parcells days. We've seen the same offensive formations and personnel groupings so many times it was starting to get predictable. It's just a preference that I want a change.

There is nothing about the AVP/West Coast Offense that would make a certain type of player a bad fit. It is all about running the ball and short passes with plenty of play action to keep the defense guessing. I would think that Pop's skillset would actually be a very good fit. You don't have to be balanced when writing an article, better to create discussion by leaving out obvious facts. The posters stating that AVP always used the talent available as opposed to valuing one WR position over another make more sense to me.

Everything Ive read is that the AVP offense is about the running game paired with the deep ball. If it is in fact the short game, then Pop is gonna eat if he can stay healthy. He actually can get separation.

Wanting a change and being boring are two different things. I want to win, being boring or traditional or usual or repetitive does not matter to me. Who cares if it is repetitive if we win? The AVP offense will be as good as it was in Cleveland. Hint: it sucks But you will be happy because it is something different. Who knows why that is important.

I've already made it known I don't care for Alex Van Pelt, but no top offensive minds were coming to NE. Offensively, I think it's going to be really rough unless Maye becomes star player. I don't think the OL is agile enough to zone block. This was evident in 2022. I don't think Rham is a good fit for this offense as well which requires quick cuts/burst and decision making. There's only a few big lumbering backs like him have done a decent job running in a zone blocking scheme.
