Do you feel Bill O'Brien would be a great Head Coach to succeed Belichick?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Maybe, it depends on how well he does with the Texans

  • Are you crazy?! Belichick is never gonna go away!

Let's face it, whoever takes over as BB's replacement will always be compared to him, which IMO is not fair. What BB has done for the Pat's organization is incredible. First 40 years of existence pre-BB, 2 SB appearances 2 losses. 15 years of BB, 6 SB appearances 4 SB wins, just insane. And who knows, we might get another 5-7 years of BB and a few more SB appearances. His replacement is f&cked unless he wins a couple of SBs right away.
Yep SP is a good coach, he will never do what BB did period. That needs to be understood.

It was big news at the time of JM not paying proper respect to BB after a win. I think I am correct
In the same game, on the field prior BB and Josh agreed not to create a spectacle and do the handshake thing and chose to get together afterwards.

I hate Pete Carroll , sorry , but true. As soon as he ran from College and put Bush under the bus for what he had control of.
Pete learned a lot after he left here. He's done a great job. He still annoys me

Well , Im not sure why he is held to a different standard than anyone else. No disrespect. But the weapons like Gronk were there when he came back. Think JM might fit fine in NE, until he starts making his own team, and calling the shots. I am looking at this from outside.
JM would not be my next pick after SP in NO I mean. Granted I dont see a better replacement for us right now than BB.
But I think even Andy Ried might be better than him as HC.
I'm not sure what you're getting at. What different standard am I holding Josh to? I'm just saying I think he could do well with another shot. I don't think he would be as good as BB or SP.

Don't know why you would want Reid or Carroll over him. Reid seems like a good talent evaluator but his teams always strike me as talented but soft (not Indy Super Puft soft, mind you), and Carroll is a rah-rah guy whose team will begin falling apart shortly (IMO). Without Wilson turning into a miracle 3rd round pick, he's starting Matt Flynn or Travaris Jackson the last few years. He would probably be gone by now.

That said, Garoppolo and McDaniels seem to have a solid relationship. And assuming they stick together, I think they'll do their best to live up to Brady's and Belichick's standards. Jonathan will be sure of that

I think a great was to evaluate someone is how they handle adversity. O'Brien was lead to believe by PSU's administration that the Sandusky Scandal was a legal issue. It wouldn't affect the football program. The NCAA issued their sanctions about 5 weeks before his first season as a head coach. Several key players immediately left the program that wasn't exactly brimming with talent. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work. No excuses. Play who ya have. Went 8-4 after an 0-2 start. I think he handled some injury and qb adversity well in Houston last year. He's doing fine in my opinion. Would be a worthy replacement for the hoodie some day if he wants to come home.

I've heard a few people suggest that Bill O'Brien would be a great guy to follow BB when he retires. Do you agree?

The best person to replace Belichick would be someone who's on the payroll now, especially if he's going to have the same authority as BB.

To this day, I'll never understand why the Pats didn't go more no-huddle on their plays. I'm still confounded by that decision

They also abandoned the running game against a Giants team that was putrid against the run. Once the Pats went down 2-0 they acted like it was 20-0.

Yikes things have gone south in Texas, no pun intended. I can understand the O being a mess because of allowing a QB controversy to develop, but what about the D?

ummm....yeah......I think I might need to change my vote

To be honest, even though I didn't think he had HC material, I still had no idea how bad he was until the Texans exposed that.

He has been pretty much doing everything wrong right from the start, from using fear as a motivation tool (never works) to hiring a DC that doesn't know anything else than running a 2 gap 3-4, to allowing Mallet to stay on the roster for even as much a minute after missing a game-day flight (after missing a practice).

I understand that the reason he hasn't cut Mallett may be because the QB3, Savage, is on IR, but absolutely not an excuse by any stretch. Plenty of capable QB2 out there just salivating for the chance to hold a clipboard again. Cancer in any form must be dealt with, promptly.

Can't Tom Brady be the coach after Bill retires? That'd be bad ass.

Of course Tom would be the quarterback too, so that could be awkward.

I hated the way O'Brien called games when he was here. I much preferred McDaniel. Heck, I preferred Weis to O'Bren. So that's a resounding NO.

The smart thing for Kraft to do would be to keep the coaching staff together. This is how the Steelers did it, it's how the 49ers did it.

That doesn't mean it will bring success. But I tend to like the way those two organizations handled things.

But then again, the 49ers had Steve Young.

I think whoever replaces BB will be chosen or recomended by BB.

O'Brien is certainly better than some options. I mean holy crap, take Gus Bradley for example. That Jaguars game was a coaching nightmare. I felt like I was watching Jacksonville Defense vs Jacksonville Coaching (oh, and the Bills). But I don't think O'Brien has differentiated himself from any other JAG head coach out there. Additionally I do think it very optimistic to believe there will necessarily be someone out there who can fill the hoodie of BB. Might BOB be the best choice we have available to us? Perhaps. But I can't say I'd be that enthusiastic about the choice given what I've seen so far in Houston.

One thing is for sure, he will be available to be a head coach if the Pats want him. If the Texans don't turn it around, he will be unemployed after this season. We knew their offense had the potential to be a disaster, but their defense? They were down at the half 41-0 yesterday and that wasn't even their worst deficit this season (down 42-0 against Atlanta at the end of the third in week 4).

I hate to say it, but Romeo might want to consider retiring. Looks like the game has passed him by.

In PSU he had nowhere to go but up.

He may not be buying the groceries but he is putting the loaf of bread, container of milk and stick of buddah in the cart.

He is gone.
