Just a question about tie breakers if the Patriots tie with teams they have not played this year....A NE-Baltimore tie??? A NE- SD tie?? what if the three teams tied?? SD-NE Balt what if it were NE-Den-Balt??? Just wondered because it may be possible that one of the 3 or 4 scenarios might occur...
and it's interesting to see what things come into play.

When teams are tied in record, you look first at whether one team has beat the other. Like Denver having the tiebreaker over NE and Ravens.

If the teams haven't played each other, than you look at how many AFC games they have won in order to rank them. If that is the same, the tiebreaker then breaks down even further into points differentials. It goes on forever in theory, until one team is better than the other. Normally, the tiebreaker will be decided by wins in the AFC conference. I'm not aware of any cases where it has gone further than that in recent memory.

Not to be too harsh, but you are more wrong than right, you left out common opponents and strength of victory and strenth of schedule, all of which come before points-related tiebreakers. Plus there are specific rules for a three way tie, and different rules for a tie between two teams in the same division. It's all spelled out at http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakers.
