New assistant QB coach Jedd Fisch coached Asiasi in 2016 at Michigan and 2017 at UCLA. Nothing of note in games during those years (18 yards in 2016, ineligible due to transfer in 2017), but he would’ve had a really good view behind the scenes.

If nothing else he will know the character and work ethic to expect.

good combination between blocking, catching and decent speed between the TEs. Might not be stars but I see a very competent duo unlike what we have seen recently.

no more FL gator TE’s?

Stuck behind Caleb Wilson (the Mr. Irrelevant of 2019). So only had one year starting. Looks pretty solid, but this was a reportedly a down tightend year.

love the double dip with TE and this guy looks like a good one

Oh no I was reminded this morning that the last time McDaniels was OC and we picked a pair of tight ends, we got busts in Davis Thomas and Garrett Mills in 2006. Same thing classic TE and then hback type back to back picks. The same terrible draft McDaniels got Maroney and Chad Jackson. maybe the worst draft class of the Belichick era. Likely more applicable than the Gronk draft which McDaniels wasn't a part of while he was destroying Denver.

Comparisons of Asiasi as a faster more athletic Alge Crumpler. Nice

No offensive mind like Urban Meyer there like last time. But Chip Kelly is in UCLA
The Tebow QB run up the middle was leather helmet revolutionary

for some reason i thought he plays tennis too

Another nice write up on Asiasi, this time from NFL.com's Lance Zierlein:

2020 NFL Draft: Lance Zierlein's three favorite picks by round

Devin Asiasi, TE, UCLA
Drafted: No. 91 overall, New England Patriots
I was only eight plays into Asiasi's tape when I began to realize I was watching a Patriot tight end. Asiasi has decent size and just average athleticism, according to his combine testing, but once the tape is on, he plays much bigger, faster and more fluidly than expected. He can attack all three levels of the field with good play speed (average 15.2 yards per catch) and can snare throws way outside his frame to turn an incompletion into a catch. He's not Rob Gronkowski as a blocker, but he does have an opportunity to become Jarrett Stidham's safety blanket in time.

Sir...I concur.

NFL Execs Think Patriots Drafting TE Devin Asiasi Was 'a Grand Slam'

Two NFL executives:

Oh, I love him,” an exec said. “I think they hit a grand slam, but he fell to them for a reason. He was suspended. The character is concerning. (Editor’s note: Asiasi was suspended for three games to start the 2018 season for a violation of team rules.) But he is better in and out of his breaks than (Cole) Kmet and a better blocker right now. He is a more vertical, wider-angle cut receiver.”

Another exec used the “G” word when describing Asiasi.

“No one is Gronk,” this exec said, “but if you are going to find a replacement for him, you are going to get a guy who weighs 270 pounds, who can block, who can high-point the ball. He is a good player, a really good player.”
