12/22/10 Patriots Football Weekly article on James Sanders:

"he is the Patriots most reliable, and perhaps even the best"

After being named AFC defensive player of the week during the Steeler game, Sanders clinched the Colts game with an interception of Peyton Manning.

BB says "He's an instinctive player who identifies formations and recognizes situations, the way people are positioned and so forth. He can anticipate what are going to be or maybe what types of plays the offense can run and get in the right position, or help our defense get in a better position to defend those plays. He does a real good job of that."

One of the PFW guys has a mancrush on him, so I'm not too surprised. I don't know why he isn't on the field more than Meriweather.

We have three pretty good safeties with different skill sets and strengths. And Page is starting to come along nicely himself. No reason not to use all of them.

Whenever I look at Reiss's defensive snaps recounts, BB does play Sanders more snaps than Meriweather, on occassion.

FWIW, Sanders has played in one fewer game than Meriweather, and has 57 tackles, 3 INT, and 1 FF. Meriweather has 67 tackles, 3 INT, and zero FF.
Pretty close production. ( Chung is still my favorite ).

The safety position may be the deepest area on the team. Which is a good thing, since BB seems to use them quite often as pseudo-linebackers in addition to their coverage duties.

Chung will be a Pro-Bowler next year. Bank it.
