PFT: Moss looks to be at his New England crossroads

Seymour's demand for a huge contract and "it's all about me,pay me very well or let me go" attitude in 2005 left a lot of bad taste in people's mouths that they never forgave him for.

Seymour's desire to get the money he could should not be held against him by anyone. If that's the basis for their dislike of Seymour, that's pathetic. He didn't pull a Branch, so there's just no excuse for letting that fester for all these years.

I yearn for the days when Tom Brady's favorite receiver was the open receiver. Only won 3 Super Bowls with that attitude.

That's a fact. Our D was pretty good too but offensively that's how it ran. Deion Branch changed that a bit maybe.

Patriot fans are different than many other teams fans though,They look at Bruschi and Brady and want all players to do the same for the sake of the team and take pay cuts or take less to remain here.

Many Patriots fans lack understanding that this is a buisness and the players are employees who will seek raises or will go somewhere else.

I can guarantee you there are lots of NFL players that are playing for a paycheck and thier financial future out of football than worrying about winning a title - it seems stupid to say this, but I bet you its more players in this league than you think.

No one disputes this (at least not me). I do believe that up until recently, only a certain kind of player could play here.

PFT et al probably wrote this article back in 2007 and have been waiting for a chance to submit it ever since. Seriously, guys, the fact that a lot of you are lapping this crap up is pretty sad.

It's not Moss, Burgess, or AD that concerns me. It's the fact that Faulk, who was supposed to assume a leadership role on offense this past offseason, is now speaking out to the media that he isn't happy and hasn't been happy since Indy. While I'm glad that he isn't happy with the way the team has been playing, I'm not glad that he's speaking out to the media about it.

What difference does it make? They could start the equipment manager and his effort would be the same.

Sad but true

You know Burgess sucks when you are like me and wishing we kept Paris Lenon

Surprised it took Perez Florio this long to get on the train. Surprised he's not trying to spin it as Moss trying to get released so he can play with Favre in Minnesota.

All will be back and practice tomorrow and avail for game, but today will have plenty of speculation and add fuel to an already smoldering fire.

Perez Florio....great reference even though it'll go over the heads of at least 95 percent of the posters here.

This is typical Florio. 0 to 100 in 2 seconds. Everything's a controversy. Everything's a **** storm.

Let's all remember Florio had Randy being released prior to the 2007 season because he wasn't practicing much in camp.

What sad is how blinded some fans have become.
I yearn for the days when all NE Sports fans could look at their teams and their players with some honesty instead of fawning puppy love.
As a Patriot fan I have ZERO loyalty to Randy Moss. Nice numbers but the team hasn't won jack with Moss and he's become an on-field distraction for our hall of fame QB. Do any of you EVER remember Tom Brady forcing the ball to one player and making the mistakes he has repeatedly in forcing things to Moss?? EVER??
TB lead this team to 3 SB's without Randy Moss or any receiver that he had to coddle and pacify. That last minute throw to Moss because his binky needed to get one over on Derrell Reves in the Jet game was pathetic and beneath the "old" Tom Brady. It was symptomatic of the "T.O. disease" Moss now brings to this team. The sooner Moss goes bye bye the sooner we get our hall of fame QB back.

Your right...

I mean, Brady was so much better before Moss. His stats were phenomenal. He won those 3 superbowls by himself with no help from any amazing kicker or defense.

Just stop. I cant believe a Patriots fan could be so damn delusional. The team would be a wreck without Randy Moss right now.

Meanwhile, without losing a step, PFT is now questioning Cutler's desire to play professional football.

I love PFT. I read it every day. But they love to make stuff up in regards to Moss. All we know at this point is that he was late to a meeting. That's it. And that he leads the league in yards. And that he is 2nd in the NFL in TDs.

Just to refresh everyone's memory on the media's (particularily PFT) agenda, here is a quick summary of Randy Moss' tenure in New England so far:

1. Randy Moss was in danger of being cut during training camp before the 2007 season.

2. Randy Moss beat a woman during the Pat's 1st round bye in the 2007 playoffs and should be cut.

3. Randy Moss was gave up on last season the moment Tom Brady went down in the 1st quarter of the first game of the year.

4. Randy Moss is a dog, and was dogging it against Atlanta despite coming up huge all day and despite being injured to the point where he probably wouldn't have played if Welker wasn't out.

5. Randy Moss is dogging it order to get cut and sign with the Vikings to play with Brett Favre.

6. "Then there’s Moss. It’s unfair to go so far as to say he’s reverted to not caring, but he is frustrated by the fact that he’s seeing more attention from defenses and, thus, less attention from Tom Brady. It’s been humbling for him to be shut down for three consecutive games and he’s edging closer to disengaging with each silent game. And his lack of attention to the detail of getting to the facility on time mirrors his lack of attention on Sundays. Build the world around Randy and he will happily sit on the throne you point him to. Tell him he’s got a supporting role and run the risk of him letting you down."

Let's see here...a wide receiver is frustrated that he is getting double teamed more and getting less passes? Name one receiver who wouldn't get frustrated. If Jerry Rice in his prime was on this team and was not getting the ball AND the team was blowing games, you same fans would want to cut him too. They made an obvious statement, then implied that Randy being late is a sign that he isn't trying Sundays?

You don't lead the NFL in yards and catch almost 70 balls by not trying. I'm sorry....I am not buying it. Randy Moss this year is performing no worse than Tom Brady is this year. If you want to say that Randy's attention to detail or effort isn't 100% right now, then Tom Brady must be putting forth 75% effort and attention to detail because he had failed time and time again to get the offense rolling in the 2nd half. Why hasn't he worked harder to improve? Why hasn't he stopped throwing horrible throws Randy's way? Maybe he is playing poorly on purpose, so he can get cut and sign with Indy to get a SB now that Jim Sorgi landed on injured reserve?

I will send this hot tip Mike Florio's way asap.

Meh, TfB and Moss will hook up for 3TDs and 190+ yards this weekend and everyone will remember how much they love Randy.

Forget the fact that we have no #2 WR, forget the fact that Brady has had his 5 INT games each year without Moss, forget the fact that Brady hasn't succeeded in EVERY important drive and that he's actually relied on clutch defensive or special teams play to get another chance.

Oh and let's just pretend he didn't have surgery on his knee and miss an entire year of playing football to which his body/mind is not used to taking an entire year off.

Nope, we are losing because of Randy fricking Moss being on the team... Yep that's it, you got it!

Reality Check. Moss' contract runs through next year and there's a decent chance that 2011 will be a strike year. He'll be 34 at the start of the 2011 season, 35 in 2012.

If he wants to put up the numbers that will assure a ticket to Canton he has to do it this year and next. It's up to him. I don't think there will be much drama.

One of the most hysteria-free posts I've read recently. Wish I'd said it. The team in general has execution issues and they are loosing games. A LOT of mistakes, Randy's included, are going to be spotlighted. With that said, I'm damn glad Randy is here and have not given up on this team. They are clearly at a point of inflection. Its either going to get a lot better or a lot worse depending on the number of W's we get in the next 4 weeks.

Randy Moss' numbers already put him in Canton, he's second in receiving TD, top 10 or higher in yards and receptions.

This isn't the way I look at it at all.

You're neglecting one huge dynamic in all of this. Some players like Bruschi and Brady are quite savvy in that they don't price themselves out of the market and make themselves prime candidates for being cut. Bruschi would have been out in the streets making the vet minimum if he played for any other team. In other words, Bruschi ended up making MORE money by sagely staying with the Patriots with a contract that did not make him a prime target for cuts. Many guys in their mid 30s who lost their fastball make the vet minimum elsewhere.

It breaks down like this:

Is 3 years making $5 million + 3 years making $500k more than 6 years making $3.5 million? It's not. Not to mention the fact Bruschi wasn't paying an agent.

In some cases, you're right. Asante Samuel clearly made out. Staying with the patriots made no sense in his case.

But then I look at Deion Branch who is making maybe a million or million and a half more than the Patriots would have paid him, and then he's going to get cut. So, by staying with the Patriots, he would have made 3 or 4 million less. The question then is, would he have had a longer career? Would he have stayed on at that 6.5 million level the Patriots were offering for another more years? Will he be making $1 million next year?

I'm betting that when all is said and done, Deion would have made more had he stayed with the Patriots.

So, making more money is good, as long as you're not a guy who prices himself off the team and gets cut to trim spending against the cap.

If Randy Moss wants to get into Canton he could retire now and sit around until they vote him in

There is nothing more he needs to do

You're more trusting of the Selection process than I am.
