PFT: James Harrison retires

Not surprising. After last year with the Steelers, it sounded like he was only interested in playing if he knew he’d have a role. With Clayborn, Hightower, Rivers, and a rookie or two all potentially cutting into the role Harrison had with the Pats, I don’t think they could promise him anything more than a chance to compete.

Linebackers? We don't need no stinking linebackers.

I think at his age he knows that he’d have a very limited role. Based on the news reports it sounds as if it’s more family related.

I got roasted two months ago for saying he wouldn't be on the team next year.

Sorry he couldn't have gotten a ring he got closer to Nick Foles than any other scrub of that what Defense.

The media can't go five minutes without discussing Tom Brady's age, but this guy was 39 playing linebacker. What kind of ice cream did Harrison eat again?

I'm sure he either was told or knows the Pats cannot promise him the role and playing time he was looking for, and the Pats are right to move on.

Appreciate his contributions, even if it was for a very short time.

Hard to say if he is a deserving HOFer though. I think he gets in but it won't be soon.

He could have earned one by making a play at some point.

I don't think this is the end.

I think hes doing this to save some pride.

A PATRIOTS LEGEND !

Those that roasted you were the same idiots who thought Stephan Jackson was coming back for another season.

I just think people had a much higher opinion of Harrison's play in the Super Bowl than I did. To me, he looked like he could still rush the passer a little, but was a total liability against the run. That's exactly not the kind of player the Patriots usually employ.

Both Jackson and Harrison were more likely than Chad “Just Needs An Offseason To Learn the Playbook” Ochocinco. I can’t believe people were actually drinking that Kool Aid.

I hear it was Rocky Road but he would pick those unhealthy marshmallows out and push them to the side.

Harrison got jettisoned by a playoff bound team where he was warming the bench. He then immediately came to a team headed to the playoffs where he played a very meaningful number of snaps and came one **** **** lucky strip sack away from a ring.

All in all not a bad way to ride off into the sunset...

It wouldn’t be impossibly surprising if he ended up on the “Shadow roster” and makes a late season return a la Junior Seau if things get ugly at that position again.
